This is an introductory video on the study of humanity. You will learn about the origin, purpose, and identity of our humanity, according to the Bible.
Session 1: Introduction | This video series is part of a Bible reading plan at Anthem Church, which provides the key scriptures that form and support 10 foundational Christian beliefs.
Section 2: My Story | Pastor Phil explains from his lived experience how he experienced the significance of this belief even before he was born.
Session 3: Background | Pastor Phil briefly explains how our belief about our humanity influences all of our relationships, and then how our changing society influences our belief about ourselves. .
Session 4: Outcome | You will be able to form a more coherent view of your humanity, including your origin, purpose, and identity in life.
Session 5: Origin, Part 1 of 2 | We explore the three vital questions of life, and then look at how Genesis 1:1 informs our Christian belief about our human origin.
Session 6: Purpose, Part 1 of 2 | We explore how Genesis 1:1 - 2:3 explains our purpose in life to worship God.
Session 7: Sabbath Rest | We learn of the significance of our work, and of celebrating our work through a weekly day of rest.
Session 8: Origin, Part 2 of 2 | You will explore how Genesis 2:4-25 explains our origin in life from a similar, but distinct way in comparison to the first creation account.
Session 9: Purpose, Part 2 of 2 | You will explore how Genesis 2:4-25 explains that humanity exists to work and to bring about human flourishing to the glory of God.
Session 10: Made to Love | As we serve and work in our world, we worship God through obedience to love him and love others. You will look at Mark 12:30-31, and how that influences how we work.
Session 11: Made for Community | God creates a woman, who will be the object of man's love in partnership together. Learn more about the significance of being a man and a woman, according to Genesis 2.
Session 12: Conclusions | You will learn about 3 important conclusions about our origin and purpose in life from Genesis 1 & 2.
Session 13: Identity as 'Imago Dei' | Humanity is made to be like God with authority, responsibility, relational capacity, and morality.
Session 14: Meaning of 'Imago Dei' | You will learn about the significance and value we have been given as God's representatives.
Session 15: Implications of 'Imago Dei' | Our identity as God's representatives is the basis for our care for the environment, our social relationships, and our spiritual relationship to Christ.
Session 16: Constitution of Mankind | You will learn about the parts that make us human, including our soul, spirit, heart, flesh and mind.
Session 17: Views of the Constitution of Mankind | You will learn about the two primary views of the make up of our humanity, including the trichotomy and the dichotomy views.
Session 18: Conclusions from the Constitution of Mankind | You will learn about the significance of having a more holistic view to our humanity, including how this influences our view of mental health, having an abortion, and sex.
Session 19: Sexuality | In light of our holistic view of being human, this influences our view of our human sexuality, and LGBT+ people.
Session 20: Transmission of Humanity | How is the immaterial part to us passed down from generation to generation? Pastor Phil closes with a final debate on the different views in how our full humanity is passed from one generation to another.
Session 21: Conclusion | Final comments on our belief about our humanity in light of the scriptures.
