Hi sweet friend, since getting hit with hurricane 🌀 Ian cat 4 + landfall in our tiny village. We have returned home repairs completed inside ( our home was built 2 years ago) so damage was minor ( but in my craft room 🙄) it had to be emptied as I have a large heavy pie safe and desk that had water come through the foundation believe it or not!! Everything is back in place after 4 days !! Roof had to get a tarp. But no rain no ceiling damage . Electricity on and off and continue to boil water . No internet wifi cable . So I thought 🤔I think I’ll create my sweet “Wendy “ antique “ label books. Alura had sent me some so tomorrow the day. Until I can video again I’ll be catching up on my list of things I’ve put off too long . Books gutted and ready to go . Thank you so much for all you do for me and our community. You are a real Joy . I’m a huge fan both here and graphic fairies. Glad you are safe from your hurricane hope the cottage is going to be ok 🌸🎀

75 years old and 60 years of using my 4-H training!!! TYFT ❤. LOTS of takeaways that make my old hands most grateful 😅 I have a pile of pain patch clear dividers that are similar to vellum. Using those to make little booklets when I’m making “visits “ to doctors offices and need directions 😢 I’ve also made these for grandkids (I have 26) for their paper game pieces😊 Luv all of these techniques

Was in Boston last week at a large bookstore and immediately thought of you when I saw a Canadian Antiquarian book that had the marble cover. Bought it for cheap and will be making myself a folio for labels. It's one of the volumes of John L Stoddard Lecture Series on Canada, 1898.

thanks for sharing this, yes, I'm just about to make a tickets and tabs etc ephemera holder/book, I usually do soft spines, but I will give it a go on a book. It's a good way to learn to sew a signature into a book spine, something I've never done. I always build my own books from scratch...but is high time I learn this! and what better than doing it on a personal use book!, no one will see if I'm not perfect hahahha I appreciate you so much.

I love your book!I watched more for the Batenburg lace than the ephemera part LOL. I did make an ephemera book with the acetate pages. I got a stack of those from a thrift store and was playing with them. They folded nicely so I cut them in strips and folded them around cardstock pages and sewed them on. They worked and I was able to sew them to both sides of the cardstock successfully in one go. I just sewed in from the outside edge and turned up 90 degrees on the inside to tack down the inside edges. That was probably as clear as mud. But it worked. But I really wanted to see how you used the lace because I have a lot of that and want to use that on upcoming projects. Thanks for sharing and I love your little books.

Hi Wendy I've seen Ephemera books and love the idea, but didn't realise how easy they would b to make. Sometimes I just assume something is going to b difficult to make 😊 Haven't made a book/JJ/etc yet, but think I'll start with one of these. My stamps, etc are in a box...and like u, if I can't c it...I forget I've got it. I haven't seen anyone use a binder template (great idea) a poke tool like that, nor heard of waxed thread. I like your version of a DIY book better than others. Thanks for sharing ❤️ PS: U sound like an Aussie, but I c from the comments u are in Canada. Chrissy From Australia

This is incredibly beautiful and functional. I have been working on ways to make my much used paper ephemera more accessible, and really needed something different to house my labels. This will work perfectly, and make me happy just to look at it. Thank you so much. And yes, I am originally from Texas, where summers were slow and sweet and we sat outside in the gentle glow of porch lights while lightning bugs put on a show in the darker corners of the garden. The monsters lurking in the shadows were ...June bugs! I had long hair, and on more than one occasion, one got tangled in my tresses. My terror was honestly that it would be damaged as I tried to disentangle it, because it was just drawn to the light and meant me no harm. Fortunately, with time and patience, they all survived, and so did I. I wish that I had had Midge to warn me when they were coming close.

These are lovely Wendy, TFS. I think I will make one now if I can find a book. I think with the inking if I want to make it look more vintage I use it , or a bit grunge but sometimes you just want a cleaner sharper look without. Some of the ladies in my group hate inking and some love it so it's about half and half personal choice! 😊💕 P.S. I don't know if we have those bugs, maybe they are called something else, will have to look them up! We have current beetles, Christmas beetles, stag beetles and click beetles in summer. ☺️

I currently store labels and such in little tins or my husband's cigar boxes. Very nice, Wendy. Ooohhh.. love that lace! Question: Do you have any issues with the glued vellum pockets lifting when you go to remove items from the pockets (even when using long-handled, thin tweezers.) I'm wondering what I did wrong. Do you only use these pockets to hold larger ephemera items that stick out over the top of the pocket so you don't have to "dig" into the pocket? TFS. From Cheryl in AZ

How do you decide between three and five hole bindings? Does it depend on the length of the spine or how many pages are in the signatures? Or some other reason?
@WendysJournalAdventure

It really depends on how long the spine is combined with how many pages per signature…the longer the spine and the more pages results in more holes for binding…just the way I approach it ❤️
