Folk music and political commentary sometimes go hand n hand in the lyrics and storytelling, especially during tuning. It's part of the deal.

Stimpy and folkmusicgirl- It's all about free speech and individual rights until someone says something you disagree with, and then it's suddenly musicians don't have a right to talk about politics. Politics is one of the things that songs have always been about, look at the lyrics of old English and Irish songs, protest songs from the 60s, etc. If you don't like what a musician's views on politics are don't go to their shows. Go on the road, sing whatever you want, and rap about whatever you want in between. You guys go on and on about how the Liberal left is trying to muzzle you (and in the case of youtube, facebook, etc. there seems to be a case to be made for this.) Don't fall for the same divide and conquer politics they are. Be true to the philosophy you profess to believe in. First amendment rights: you may not agree with what they say but you'll die for their right to say it, etc. fokmusicgirl writes, "A concert goer should not have to sit & feel uncomfortable because the singer starts talking about his /her political opinions." Does that not sound like a whiny snowflake to you? Singers aren't sex workers, it's not their job to make you feel comfortable!

I understand what you are saying. I have never seen this artist but I have been to many concerts over the years where I go to "hear the music" but then hear a long political agenda. If I want to go to a political event there are plenty of places where you can do that - but a concert goer should not have to sit & feel uncomfortable because the singer starts talking about his /her political opinions. If the event is organized as a "Political Event" then fine but a concert should be a concert.

Saw her last night in Philly. I wish she kept her Liberal politics to herself. I go to a show to hear music, not political commentary from a German ex-patriot.
