Awesome! I needed you! Had a falling apart deer from South Texas over 100 years old and antlers were still great so doing this now! OMG thank you.

Haha. Great to hear I could help you and that old deer out. Good job in saving him for a few more years. - Rick

Sentimental. My mom's dad's deer and I never met him. He died when mom was only 13. I believe this deer mount to be from at least the 20s.

That's terrible young to lose your dad. It never ceases to amaze me how some of those older mounts can really last such a long time. Must've been a great taxidermist and good care through the years. Are you going to replace the cape too? Or, re-do the antlers and hang them by themselves? Good job. I'm glad to hear you're doing your best to keep that part of your history alive. I re-did my wife's grandfather's first deer he ever got. He's been gone a long time too. Meant a lot to her. It's hanging in our living room. - Rick

Richard Smith Mom missed him ver much and now she has passed. Wish I could have saved the whole thing but couldn't afford to take it to a taxidermist. Antlers I could save so thanks to this video the air dry clay is drying now.

We're very sorry for your loss. Your mom doesn't have to miss him anymore. They're together, in our opinion. I'm sure the mount was too far gone to save. He was probably most proud of the rack anyway. Let me know how it turns out. I told Pam you were doing this. She just lost her mom a couple of months ago, so she understands too. I'll check my emails a bit earlier today in case you run into any problems. Rick and Pam

I finally finished. I would like to send you a picture but can not find your contact email anywhere and I can not attach to a comment here. I am pleased with being able to use all materials I already had. =)

Are you satisfied with the results? Do you think it looks good? That's the most important thing here. You know what it looked like before and after, the care and work involved getting it there. I think this is great. You've preserved something special from your grandfather to last even longer yet. Awesome. I don't know how to attach a picture to this forum either. I've had plenty of people try, but, only a couple figured it out. I'd enjoy seeing it too. I don't know if it can be done through my website either. Thanks a lot for updating me with the good news. - Rick Tips, Q & A Forums, List of Supplies I Use and More Videos at My Website: Everything Wild Taxidermy, Flintknapping, DIY Life” wyomingtaxidermy.blogspot.com

I went to your Google Plus pages and didn't see it. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I found pix and correspondence, but, no antlers. Pam set that up for me and I admit, I don't know much about it. You can help me out, I need directions to that pix. Thanks. - Rick

Thanks for sending me the link to the picture. I like it. You did a super job. That's a heck of a rack. I left you a comment on your page also. I appreciate you taking the time to send it. It's nice to see the end result. There's nothing wrong with the natural color of the rope. I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks again. - Rick

How do you clean the skull plate?
@PamelaGSmith
10 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, there's hardly any meat on it. There's several ways to clean it though. Put salt or Borax on it. When it dries up, scrub the skull with a wire brush. The third way is to boil the skull with a bit of Dawn dish soap. Great question. Thank you. - Rick Website: Everything Wild Taxidermy, Flintknapping, DIY Life
