Unparalleled level of awareness. Freeman, Favre, Desmond, Reggie, Rison (for a few games)...The Packers were the most exciting team in the league at this time...not even a distant second.

Thanks for posting this. Al Michales’ reaction is great. I was at the game and didn’t hear his reaction until it was posted online. Almost everyone thought the play was dead, but a few of us noticed the there was no ref whistle, so it was probably still alive.

Best catch ever. You know the people saying Beckhams is better because it was skill, just proves the point of why it wasn't better. Now if they didn't show OB in pregame or at practice making that same catch minus falling backwards of course, that'd be different, he practices those kind of catches, you can't practice what Freeman did, the awareness and concentration to grab it inches from the turf, after its almost picked off. Then, the wherewithal to get up, put a move on the defender trailing the play, and scoot into the end zone

so because he practices catching the ball, anytime he makes an unbelievable play it's somehow less of a catch? No, you can't practice what Freeman did, because it was luck. Other than being aware enough to reach his arms out and grab a ball dangling in mid air, hardly any skill. OB's was nothing but skill. These two plays aren't even comparable.

My dad was at that game!!! Before I was born. He remembered the catch and when they ruled it a touchdown the stadium erupted in cheer!!!!

Still remember staying up late with my dad watching this game when I was like 13 and couldn't believe it. You know its a good play when 10+ years later you remember the exact memory of what you were doing when it happened.

Same. I was 12 and I still remember we first groaned at the apparent drop, then we saw Freeman get up and run in and we were both cheering and in disbelief that he caught the ball. The shot of the ref laughing at the play was what I remembered the most about that

This is the best play I've ever seen live with my own two eyes. (The Beast Mode run by Lynch against the Saints is a very close 2nd) I don't like the Packers at all, especially back when Favre was QB, but this catch is nothing short of fucking amazing. I remember staring at my TV after this play in pure wonder and unbelief.......

Damn Al Michaels is at least a top 3 all-time announcer. He adds enough emotion to make it entertaining and memorable but doesn't scream like Gus Johnson and ruin the entire moment

I remember watching this game a few days after my birthday after getting out of foot surgery. Nurses thought something was wrong because i was screaming, but I was just really excited about the catch. I miss the old packers and the gunslinger

Thank you for posting this. I'm a huge Packer fan and I remember this game like it was yesterday. I was 19 years old in Navy "A" school in Pensacola, FL and I was the only one at the "E" club watching this game. An old Chief from Minnesota came in and started watching with me. When Freeman crossed the goal line, I looked over and the face the Chief had is something ill never forget. Great Packer moment.

Everyone sharing their memory of where they were even though this happened almost 15 years ago, just tells you all you need to know. My memory was taking a dump at a waffle house in Florida and heard a loud roar outside the bathroom. I thought the place was being robbed.

I remember this so vividly. I was a junior in high school watching the game in my room. It was pretty late when the game went to overtime so my family was sleeping. I remember as I watched this I was absolutely freaking out and shouting and I woke everyone in the house up. Every time I see this play I can’t believe it!

Kind of the norm seeing the Vikes blow another lead like this. It is actually nice to see the Pack choke as they did in the NFC championship this year. Packer fans do not handle it well, however. Not to mention, go back and look and some of Cris Carters catches during his career - I'm sure Carter had some spectacular catches as well. #GoBackHome!

It was a Gold package game. I was there. The Packers were heading towards the hallowed South End Zone during this play. It was drizzling on and off during the game and the rain really came down during OT. We were all soaked, but it was glorious! FYI, I delayed surgery to see this game. My test results prompted the doctor to call me on Friday for surgery on Monday, but I said I couldn't miss this game! Had surgery on Thursday instead & lived to tell this tale. Won't ever forget this game.

I was watching the Super Bowl and thinking the same thing, that the "catch" in that game does not even come close to Antonio Freeman's. It did remind me of his slightly but the way Antonio got up and left everyone behind was like poetry in motion.

I like how Freeman just kept on running. Usually when wierd things happen and the guy knows he caught it, he jumps around trying to tell everybody he caught it. Freeman said hmmmmm I caught it I'm runnin lol!

I was in basic training (Army) during this game. I remember the Drill watching it as we were going to bed for lights out. I learned about the result at 4am the next day. Always wished I could've watched it live....
