Het elfde gebod or in English "the eleventh commandment" you mention in your video is a pretty usual name for a bar or restaurant in Belgium . There is a fun fact story about that particular name. We love our stories and urban legands in Belgium like the story of the name Antwerpen in this video for example or manneke pis in Brussels. Legend tells us that God himself gave the Belgians and the Belgians only an extra commandment on top of the 10 every chistian has to obey. The commandment is " thay shall drink beer and enjoy your life". And so we obey.

Thanks for all these videos on Belgium. It’s a country that I’ve only been to superficially and never spent more than a few days there; usually on my way to somewhere else. But I’m definitely feeling like it’s worth a longer visit. Never been to Antwerp. It looks charming!

Wonderful astounding Antwerp train station. Central train stations in Europe are so nice. I'm always shocked every time I think they wanted to destroy the New York train station to build a new one. Newer does not always mean better.

Thank you for showing intrest to my country. We aren't very good in advertising ourselves that is why Belgium keeps the boring image to most foreign people. The places most known to the foreign public are Ghent Bruges and Antwerp they are all Flemish dutch speaking but there is also a southern French speaking part that I love as a Flemish speaking native myself. I love Dinant and Namur in particular even Liège has its charm but they don't like Flamish people like me but you as a foreigner will have no issues with passive aggressive behaviour (stay away from Charleroi it's a horror city for everybody including yourself and locals) The real charm and history of Belgium without the mass tourism is actually in the smaller towns. If you are into real ancient history for example that goes back to pre Roman times with a Roman build stone wall from the 1ste century still intact (partially) visit Tongeren it is the oldest town in Belgium founded by the Romans it's not my hometown but it is in my province and I love it. The town where I live has many tourists too but they are mostly Belgian tourists from other parts of the country and a lot from the Netherlands. I don't know what is so charming about my city that it attracts so many people but that is probably because I live here and I'm just used to it. We do have the best speculoos in the entire world (forget the Lotus airoplane speculoos that is just commercial rubbish compared to our artisanal way of making it) We also have the best Jenever better even then Ghent and that says it all. In october every year we have Jenever festivities and I believe but not quit sure if that is still accurate "Het demer manneke" a little fountain statue guy with a barral ( Het Demermanneke our own version of manneke pis in Brussels but not as famous ) poors out Jenever (kind of Gin like hard liquer) instead of water the rest of the year for the people. There is also a pretty well known by the ladies fashion museum. I never went there myself because I'm not into fashion. If you haven't guest where I'm from yet it is Hasselt in the north-east of Belgium.

@@StayFabulousTL Try and find out more about Tongeren You will be one of the very few international Visitors that ever made a video of that charming town. There is the Beguinage, There is the Cathedral there is the Roman wall there is the Gallo Roman museum. This last one will blow the American viewers away. I know they love old architexture from medeival times. Imagine how they respond if you take them further back in time into the ancient pre Roman Celtic times and Roman times. This city/town is 2000 years old. Belgium comes from the Latin Belgae (those who swell in anger) What I'm telling you now is not an Urban legend this time it is real history. So Is Belgium an artificial country founded in 1830? No not really the name existed allready in the time of Julius caesar himself in his book "the bello Gallico" or the Gallic wars where he mentioned the Belgians as the bravest of all the gauls. My great great ancestors the Euberones tribe defeated 2 roman cohorts in 53 Before Christ. The Belgian tribe of the Euberones (people of the holy boar as we called ourself) Chieftain was Ambiorix and you can find his statue in Tongeren. You can eat him in chocolate too I assume. Good luck do some research go east from Brussels and find the real authentic non mass touristy Belgian gems. Maastricht in the Netherlands allso worthwile a visit is just 20 km away from Tongeren so is my hometown Hasselt I told you about and finally so is Liège where the famous waffles come from.
