My favorite Floyd album is “Piper at the Gates of Dawn”. It’s a bit harder to get into, but it takes me back into the world of childhood. Daydreaming, nursery rhymes and children’s fairy tales. Pink Floyd wouldn’t have been as famous if Syd Barrett had stayed with them, but he definitely produced some of their greatest work.

Growing up in Fla, my local radio station-- Rock 105-- used to play this album in its entirety, every Aug during the Perseid meteor shower. When I was young, I'd listen to it at my house. But during high school, me and some friends took a boom box out on the beach, dropped some acid, and laid in the sand listening to this album and watching meteors. It was a right of passage of sorts, as I had heard so many stories of people doing that. I'll never forget that night. So thank you for this series-- it has brought back so many memories, and has shed so much light on this iconic album. Polyphonic is my favorite KZitem channel, by far!

Your discussion on the significance of the album cover has reminded me how much we've lost in the era of digial music. There's no longer anything tangible. No journey to the record store and flipping through the titles. No slow read through the artwork, lyrics and dedications. It really fractures the experience. We buy single songs rather than full compositions, and shatter the vision and impact of cohesive works like Dark Side of the Moon. It's convenient to have access to music from anywhere at any time, sure. But there's a lot I miss in the excitement and acquisition of a new release when record stores were the main way to buy music.

I love that line, “But they’re all blue.” I also love the way Polyphonic puts it, in the large scale of things we can’t control. Although I also see it as the things people in modern society can control, on an individual level . There are so many choices of what people can wear, and what music they listen to, but many choose the same things as other people, to choose what’s popular, in order to fit in. In other words, they have so many colors to choose from, but they all choose blue. It’s the sad reality of a society losing it’s individual uniqueness from one person to the next, and instead gaining one personality that everyone adheres to. There’s no telling people apart from the things they like and dislike and their opinions on certain issues, if something’s popular then the one personality of society likes it to. (In other words everybody says they like it, in order to fit into that one large group)
