Life on the sea, even in the shelter of the Marlborough Sounds, is subject to everything that the weather throws at you. Winds are by far the worst. Being a heavy, high sided vessel we are very exposed, and affected by, strong winds. We have a threshold of about 40 knots, then we will head into port if we are able. When you see the weather warnings of sustained gusts for hours on end of over 50 knots, we much prefer to be tied up alongside the berth we pay for.
We are a family of 6 embarking on a new adventure, life at sea with 2 teenage girls, 2 young boys, an old dog and 2 birds on a boat at sea. This is our very first boat so we are (k)not particularly nauti(cal) ..... yet!
