2nd half. Hamilton City Brass on stage at Southwell School, Hamilton, 22/4/2018. With music we paid tribute to veterans and serving defence personnel, and honoured those lost in past and present wars. ANZAC Remembrance featured a variety of orchestral and popular music from the war years and beyond including a medley from the 1940’s big band leader Glenn Miller ; ‘Benedictus’ from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins; and Edward Elgar’s military march ‘Pomp & Circumstance No.1’. Hollywood’s portrayals of WWII wartime events were highlighted with the distinctive theme from ‘The Dam Busters’; the haunting theme from ‘Schindler’s List’ while the sombre, reflective tone of ‘Band of Brothers’ depicted the human tragedy of war.
Thoughts of home were highlighted with ‘Pokarekare Ana’ and ‘Hine E Hine’ while the warm sounds of brass were perfect for reflective numbers including ‘Amazing Grace’ ; Kenneth Downie’s ‘In Perfect Peace’ and Dvorak’s ‘Rusulka’s Song to the Moon’.
Under the baton of Glenn Richards, Hamilton City Brass presented a heart warming and reflective concert of tribute and friendship celebrating the enduring spirit of the Anzac.
