Funny how I was researching the driveshaft differences last night, wishing I had visuals and then you come out with this video!

It is my understanding that yes, you can install an ap2 propshaft 'backwards' front to rear (the flange that originally went to diff now bolting up to trans, vice versa). We swap axle cups when they wear out, maybe swapping ap2 propshaft direction could have a similar benefit (you could still swap ap1, but it'd be messy, as you'd have to do similar process as grease repack, but mount outer flange to opposite ends on reassembly). Its a very different type of cv. Unsure if any possible benefit, or if it would actually cause issues (vibes, etc). Curious if anyone has tried it.

Make sure when you change the flange that you properly torque down the flange nut on the transmission. It's critical because it sets the pre-load on the outer tapered bearing on the output shaft.

This is a propshaft, not a driveshaft.

Seen several ap2 driveshaft update into ap1 on a couple of Japanese blogs but not sure why they did it.. keen to hear if you find any advantages
@NAUS2K

Main advantage is it makes it easier to swap to an AP2 diff which is known to be more reliable. Easier to swap the output flange on the trans than on a diff.

Maybe time to consider the AP2 secondary gear multiplier also?

You have to do a lot of work to make that happen. You have to remove the tail section of the transmission. Then remove a reverse threaded nut, a roller bearing, and then the output gear. I recently had to replace the tailshaft housing, it freaking sucks. Complete PITA job.

are you rebuilding the prop shaft with the jaguar CVs?
@@emoboi951 i had no idea about this. Great info and thanks for sharing! Will definitely consider this moving forward

I blew my ap2 diff recently and I found a ap1 diff for cheap . Can I use my ap2 drive shaft with ap1 diff?
@NAUS2K

You can drill out the holes on the ap1 diff and retap them to the larger ap2 thread
@rolandotillit2867

Yes you can, but you'll have to downgrade to AP1 bolts. Remember you're not tightening the bolts to the prop shaft. You're tightening the bolt to the flange and the washer.

@@rolandotillit2867 see my reply here. I would not recommend putting AP1 bolts though an AP2 driveshaft flange. There will be a TON of slop between the OD of the bolt and the ID of the thru holes.

@@NAUS2K I didn't say it would be ideal, just that you can do it.

@@NAUS2K for the record, the fancy shmancy Spoon prop shaft has holes to accept AP2 bolts but is intended to work with both AP1 and AP2 drivetrains.
