I wish Stallone had tapped into some of this during the funeral: "He gave me my career ... when I lost it, he got it back for me ..." all sentiments he could have expressed about the character of Creed that would have really enhanced that scene. I don't think Stallone should have had Apollo Creed easily destroyed like this. The plot would have worked just as well if it were a later-round uppercut to the honker that finished him off after he had inflicted at least minor damage on Drago. It's too lopsided, and doesn't really make any sense, since Apollo and Rocky are supposedly equal as boxers. I think it disrespects the character.

Black dudes always get humiliated and disrespected in Hollywood movies, they always have to try and make them look weak. As Eddie Murphy suggested in Raw, people in real life are probably smarter than to think everyone can be Rocky and take out an Apollo the way he did in the movie and illustrated it in spectacularly hilarious fashion how the real life fight would go.

I tell you one thing. There is no way in hell Creed would have kept fighting in real life. If that was a real boxing match, the referee would’ve consulted with a ringside physician, and the physician would’ve deemed that Creed had suffered too much damage, and the fight would’ve been called at that point.
@ks_1762

For sure but I guess given it's Hollywood everything needs to be overly exaggerated at the cost of being realistic lol. If there was any way to try and justify it though, then maybe the rules for stopping fights were not as strict back when this film was made. I mean even the real fights throughout history would have been stopped way earlier in modern times. The last Ali vs Frasier fight for example (Thrilla in Manilla). That was a brutal and barbaric fight and became rather unpleasant to watch towards the end (despite the legendary fight status it has). Nowadays, that fight would have been stopped way earlier.

The most intimidating moment in the entire franchise from 1976 to the very disappointing Creed 3 was when Ivan's arms did not move at all when Apollo hit his fists. In real life that is almost impossible as the person going DOWN on the fists has gravity, leverage, and momentum all on their side so the ONLY way that could happen is if you absolutely TOTALED them in strength. In real life Mike Tyson's hands would go down some (maybe not all the way though) if I was the one hitting them. If Apollo had had any brains, and his brain was destroyed by round 2 so at the start of round 1 he still had a brain, at least technically he would have surrendered the fight RIGHT THEN.

The general rule is that if a boxer can land ten or more consecutive punches, with his/her's opponent not punching back, the ref can rule the opponent as DEFENSELESS and stop the fight. So, this scene is totally fictional. No ref has ever witnessed that level of brutality and still allowed the fight to continue.

@@shermanmcclesky6882 You never watched Tommy Morrison vs Ray Mercer then. It's just as bad as this except that Tommy (RIP) didn't die in the ring, but he was completely out cold, caught in the ropes going down and Ray Mercer hit him something like 8 more times with Morrison absolutely out cold. Absolutely brutal and I still can't believe that Tommy was OK after that fight. That was Tony Perez who is widely credited as being the most incompetent referee in boxing history. He did just as bad of a job with Gerry Cooney vs. Ken Norton, Norton ate like 6 uppercuts laying against the ropes totally defenseless. And Cooney was a monster puncher too just like Ray Mercer.
