You seem to think that there was ever any focus on gay or straight during these times. There wasn't. Any hole that could get you off, especially if you were a God, was usually serviceable regardless of gender. So no, you're wrong in many ways. Apollo, like many others, had an attraction to anything beautiful, or beyond spectacular. I'd wager to say that if such an individual (Hyacinthus) in this story had that effect on Apollo, the God of the Sun, he'd easily have that effect on any human. That doesn't make us gay does it? Seems to be a pronounced mystical stigma read here. Something that not even a God can resist.

Why did the ancient Greeks inscribe "Know thyself" above the entrance of the temple of Apollo? Out of all the gods, why did the ancient Greeks choose Apollo for this most important axiom of all? Because Apollo was the god of INTROSPECTION. Meaning that to truly know yourself, you must go into yourself. Alchemical axiom: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. _Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem_ ("Visit the interior of the Earth and by rectifying, you will find the hidden stone") You are the interior of the earth and you are the hidden stone. Warning: I do know that there are a lot of versions of the story, this is just one of them. It was a satyr Marsyas who challenged Apollo and after got flayed alive.

the myths you are talking of (marsyas) is not meant to be taken literally . the myth is symbolic in nature . marsyas myth tell us to not do hubris or else you'll be punished by the gods . Also , this myth is of athentian origin who loved lyre (apollo's musical instrument) and disgusted flute (marsyas instr.) because it was liked by their rivals . the flaying is a metaphor for their dislike and destroying lute . The myth of midas is not true either because , Aristotle wrote that phygrian king midas was quite lustful when it came to money and he died in vain wanting more riches. It is ovid who firstly is roman poet and is infamous for twisting the plot of myths to make them appear more appealing . pan is replaced with marsyas in roman mythology overall these myths are symbolic and one instead of taking them at face value focuses on the lesson it teaches i.e. don't be extra prideful .

A millenium later, Apollo would return to the world as one of the best human boxers of all time, holding the championship until a certain "Italian Stallion" came along.

Actually, the contest between Pana and Apollo was judged by Tmolus, a mountain god. Midas was just an audience and also the only one to disagree when Tmolus announced Apollo the victor.

the contest of pan and Apollo is not from greek but roman mythology besides it is written by ovid around (1 BC) and he is not shy when it comes to use poetic license . He has a wild imagination and his retellings never stick to the original version of the myth . besides , i believe that this is just one of the many myths ovid made up for entertainment . before pan , in Athens the myth of apollo and marsyas arose (5BC) . Herodotus , a historian (5BC) wrote that midas judged the competition between Apollo and marsyas and he made an offering to Delphi too . Pan is overlapped with marsyas so often to exclude the punishment of marsyas ovid must would have Invented pan myth while keeping Midas the judge .

Will we get a video on the actual Sun God? HELIOS?
@TheKingOfSpooks

He's not the "actual sun god" because he is not a god, he is a titan. And the two dieties were merged years ago by the ancients. Like a video about Helios would be cool but because of the merger there's not as much info about his as Apollo.

If you mean the Daphne case, the most popular version includes him being shot by an arrow filled with Aphrodisiac. If you mean Cassandra, she broke a deal so he didn't trust her with the gift and as he couldn't take it away he twisted it.

80% of all the myths are the gods being jealous and cursing others and seeing revenge. As well as showing how powerful they are than the others.
