That 'grape' passage...people need to understand that this part of the law is Case Law. These aren't "musts" they are "if something like this happens, here's a good way to handle it". Additionally, notice that it says "and _they_ are discovered". This isn't about 'grapes' this is about two consenting individuals who had relations outside of marriage. Also keep in mind that this is a very social society. Everyone in the town will know both of them personally and they will have to carry the shame of what they did. Finally, along those lines, they would be living in very close proximity to other people and any actual abuse would be quickly found out and judged.

I believe this is also in exodus, and is extended in exodus to say essentially “if the woman doesn’t want to marry him, she can tell her father and he can deny him the marriage (the man still pays the bride price).
@tristanloveday5240

You're absolutely correct. The difference between the herbrew words used in verse 25 (the actual rape verse) and 28 are different along with "they" presuming the guilt of both parties. And as others have stated, it's a mirror of Exodus. Which makes no ambiguous verbs on what it's about. Exodus 22:16-17 [16]And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. [17]If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Objections to faith? Simply define faith and you'll realize it's circular reasoning. Faith based on faith based on faith. It's really not conducive to critical thinking or discovering what is true. Only what appeals to confirmation bias.
@justin10292000
8 ай бұрын
@w4rsh1p EVERY worldview, metanarrative, philosophy and/or religion is based on faith in the broadest sense of confidence. Science itself is based on faith: the confidence placed in unprovable presuppositions simply accepted a priori. The issue is not faith in the broadest sense of confidence. The issue is the evidence supporting that faith (confidence).

@w@rship...what is confirmation bias? That seems like a broad term. So, many people have a perspective that clouds their decisions, behaviors, etc. So, an atheist coming to belief has their biases disrupted. Faith is not circular reasoning, as we do it everyday, when we get on a plane, a bus, drive a car, work for pay we don't see for a check bimonthly. Faith is transformative.

Did Aristotle claim something that no evidence throughout human history has confirmed? No? Well then I guess your examples aren't comparable, are they? So really the choices come down to A. Discover strong evidence of a god (which no theist has ever done), and justify belief, and ideally tell everyone about that strong evidence, OR B. Realize you don't have strong evidence, care about truth and stop believing, OR C. Realize you don't have strong evidence, _don't_ care about truth and believe an old book's claims despite not having a good reason to believe it.

Aristotle wrote his book on physics, Aand he made a following very obvious point if you push something, it moves and if you stop pushing, it stops moving this kind of thing *is repeated* a large number of times all over the place. if you don't keep pushing things, they stop moving. this is an indisputably true fact about our everyday environment it's become known as, *conservation of momentum*

The protest about the passage in Deuteronomy demonstrates why it’s dangerous to use subjective “dynamic equivalence” Bibles such as NIV instead of more literal translations such as NASB, ESV, and Berean. To the degree that a version paraphrases, it not only changes the meaning, it also substitutes the translator’s opinion for the Holy Spirit’s enlightenment.

Might be too deep for a quick video like this, but the idea the Muslim guy talked about, how "you can do anything you want to if you just claim to believe in Jesus" is so critical right now. That's a huge misconception among non-believers...including non-believers who think they are believers. Jesus warned about it in Matthew 7, those whom he will say "I never knew you" to. We have to make a point, when possible, of explaining that "believing in Jesus" doesn't just mean "believing facts to be true." It is a commitment to Jesus as Lord, which means repentance (changing of one's mind and priorities etc.), which naturally leads to following Jesus' example in joyful gratitude. So no, when properly understood, Christianity does not teach that you can just say the magic words of the sinner's prayer and then go on living like the devil. You only expose that your repentance is false and you are not saved.

I think the point that you are missing in the understanding about the "rapes" in Deut is that in the passage where the man is to be stoned, but the virgin is inoscent, she cries for help, but nobody hears her. In the passage where the man has to marry her and can never divorce her, she does not scream for help; strongly suggesting that this is with consent. The word rape in this case is therefore a really bad translation. God bless.

The careful listener should note that Brandan says, "the Greeks had plenty of words for homosexuality and the reason Paul makes this word is because he's describing something different" but then a moment later says "exploitative homosexual sex, which was common at the time." If it's common, then there's already a word for it. So, if there were other words for this exploitative sex, if that's what was common, then it stands to reason that, if his argument were true that Paul is describing something new, that He's actually referring to the idea of men sharing a marriage bed, rather than practicing exploitative sex.

I won't be so arrogant to claim I could have answered better, but I'll just comment that in the answer about Hitler, the Muslim gentleman completely misses the connection between faith and works. Granted, we are not saved by works, but James makes it clear that faith which is not accompanied by works is dead, or no faith at all. So for him to suggest that Christians believe that they can be saved and then proceed to do whatever they want is naive at best and a lie at worst.

Having your child murdered by some gun nut with an AR-15 must be absolutely horrific and soul destroying even more so because it’s the result of an insane gun culture. No civilian needs an automatic weapon The arguments for allowing it are ultimately false and strongly influence by irresponsible boys wanting their toys and the dreadful NRA propaganda and the greed of the gun industry. Yet these dreadful mass shootings often of children keep happening. Amongst all the insanity happening in the USA today this is surely one of the most heartbreaking and scandalous

I always feel like misrepresentation of biblical scriptures and not thinking through til a conclusion is reached leads to ignorance. If people want to know God or, for that matter reject God they need to understand what they are truly rejecting. Example: If you don't understand the God per se, we get silly assumptions like who created God then? Which is a failure right out the gate, understanding who and what God truly means.

Seduction vs *grape. People fail to understand how the law back then worked nor the social issues of the time. 1st: *grape was considered a property crime. No joke, for most of its existence, that particular crime was considered a property crime as it was taking away a very valuable aspect of a woman. 2nd: A unmarried non-virgin had a much much lower social status than a virgin woman. Even previously married women non-virgins had much higher status than a non-married woman. And that social status was crushing back then with large consequences that would effect who you could associate. Whether you think its fair or not, that was the fact of that day. Finding someone to marry you would drop the man's social status right away so many would go unmarried. Slaves sold as prostitutes were chained to that life thanks to their status. Forcing the *grape-ist to marry the woman was considered a benefit to the woman. And no, marriage had little to do with love back then either.

Hitler & the Nazis were NOT Christians. They were in the Thule Society, which is an occult, new age type of religion. Their priestesses had to have very long, straight hair because the longer & straighter it was the better the communication with either spirits or gods (can’t remember which); the hair was like an antenna. They believed that famous objects in history & folklore were real, & if they found them & took possession, they would have the magical powers. After Jews, the religion they killed the most in the camps was Catholics. The Nazis despised the morality of Christianity. The problem is ignorance of this fact, & I do believe the atheist elites purposely try to hide this fact; it was only after several decades of watching documentaries about Nazis before I ever learned these facts. Since Christianity was the major religion in Germany of that time, people just naturally assume the Nazis must’ve been Christians too. We absolutely must spread this knowledge to other Christians & to non-Christians as well.

People like to say "Hitler was Christian" or "The Nazi Party was a Christian movement!" but all of this is lacking context and ultimately Hitler admired the church (Catholic church) because of the power they had amassed and his ultimate goal was to replace all religions in the western world with a form of "Hitlerism", basically. Hitler also worked closely with several Muslism who he intended to instill as the equivalent of a Muslim Fuhrer in the Middle East. The tendrils of his unholy union can be seen in the fact that the one of the main architects of the Final Solution went on to become the grandfather of movements such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, etc. Mein Kempf was also widely distributed in Muslim countries in the 40s-now. Hitler also placed in the churches across Germany Nazi moles who were ordered to assassinate the church leaders when the time came.
