The video I didn't know I needed this morning. Thank you! Heading for a 2024 thru hike for my 60th birthday, and am scaring myself out of it. This helped. Thank you!

So glad to hear that this resonated with you. Good luck on your thru hike. Just get yourself there! The idea of a whole thru hike is intimidating, but just take it one day at a time. Thanks for watching. Happy trails!

I've just in the past week decided that AT 25 is calling my name and will happen. My mind and soul needs it, and I need to take reflection on life. I honestly can't think of a better way.

Love this. Thank you. Great lessons...coming from the perspective of a "failed" 2023 thru-hike. Love the quote "It's not an adventure until something goes wrong". Reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite writers/musicians, Neil Peart; "Adventures suck when you're going through them". I'm looking forward to getting back out on trail next March with a new and better perspective. I miss it so much.

Appreciate you watching! I like how you put “failed” in quotes because it is only a failure if you let it be. I’m sure you took a lot away from your hike and I commend you for giving it a go. That quote is accurate too. There were a lot of days when it wasn’t so fun, but still worth the trouble. Looking back there is definitely a factor of wearing “nostalgia glasses.”

My brother had a quote. You have to be miserable to know you’re having a good time. Mainly bc there are more goods days than bad days.

Great video. Thanks for making it. I'm 71 and only started backpacking at 66. Have now done about 450 mi of the AT. Still working on it and all seven lessons sound like what I have begun to learn out there. This video is more encouragement to keep at it.

Thanks so much for watching. I am so glad that you found this video encouraging in some way. Kudos to you for section hiking. That means you have to get yourself there to start multiple times. It is difficult enough to do it once. I commend your efforts. You are an example of how it is never too late to get started. I hope to be as active as you when I reach my 70s. Happy trails!

Had 1400 miles of an attempted thru years ago. Going back out next year. Had a funny story about the trail providing on a short hike couple months ago. Was in a rush getting to the trail head. Made it to camp and had everything except some camp shoes. And wouldn't you know, I had setup camp near the back of the site. Behind a log right by camp was a new pair of flip flops. I actually said to myself "that's funny somebody left camp shoes and i forgot mine" then went back to cooking. Had a moment where I realized OH I CAN TAKE EM. Small thing but the trail really does provide. Had numerous occasions like this on my thru attempt.

Thanks for watching! So glad this video resonated with you. I actually found out years later that Paolo Coelho, the author of The Alchemist, actually hiked the Camino and it definitely informed his ideas and writing of The Alchemist. So of course there will be some correlations between the book and thru hiking. The universal language! The Camino is definitely on my bucket list.

I enjoyed your video. Well put together and so true on all your steps. Question: I watched your documentary video a long time ago. Whatever happened to your best friend that started with you? As I remember he met a women that was kind of or was involved with a religious cult. He ended up ending his hike and staying with them. If you don’t want to tell that’s cool but I was just wondering.

Thanks for watching! After the hike we grew apart and went our separate ways. It was not a religious cult or anything like that, he just pursued a relationship and I wished him the best.
