My father is a Navy vet. He gave his entire life serving this country. He went in at 15, his mother had to sign for her consent. His body was left broken on top of which he is diabetic. He does without his meds and some procedures because he can not afford the cost, even with insurance. His top dentures broke 2 years ago and he can not afford new ones. I’m sure their are more of the same stories out there that are about the same. It is a Damn SHAME that a military vet should have to endure pain and discomfort because even with insurance, he can not afford treatments. This has got to change. I’m even more furious that now in this country we are paying for illegal’s to get free treatment that Americans can not afford. Make this make sense…

He left off the biggest problem. the government requires you to pay them MILLIONS just for permission to make insulin. Stopping anyone from making and selling it cheaper. I looked into it once. for $10K you can buy the machines to make your own. If your going to be taking it for life, that makes the most sense. My grandfather needed insulin and he had to buy his own needles, but hey have money to give free needles to drug addicts breaking the law???
@petuniagirl1
7 ай бұрын
Yes. Exactly. According to the NIH, there have been only four cases of people misusing insulin. I looked it up, asked Google if people use insulin injections to get high. There's no reason, logically, for the government to be as involved in regulating the production of insulin as they are, or the distribution of needles to insulin dependent patients. IF they cared, like they say they do, about American citizens. We know that answer. Controlling insulin's big money and the gov't is in on the money, have a cruel monopoly against those who need insulin for their very lives, American citizens. Disgusting. All the bureacracy that has to be paid drives the price up; insulin production should be open to the free market system, (like, JMO, health insurance) with some basic common sense standards so safety for patients are met. We can shop around for aspirin, that prevents strokes and heart attacks, why not insulin? Sorry for the long reply. Our neighbor, insulin dependent, retired, worked since age 12, struggles to pay for his insulin.

Ukraine is part of a much larger geopolitical picture and the outcome there will have ramifications on the US taxpayer whether you can see it or not. What he should be advocating for is the USG negotiating pharma pricing on behalf of all Americans like every other developed country does for their citizens. US taxpayers pay for a lot of biomedical R&D that is used too develops medicines and then pay the highest prices for those drugs because big pharma and insurance companies line our representatives pockets. Notice how he wanted to use us taxpayer money to cover the price difference instead of telling big pharma to “eat shit, we’ll pay what the rest of the world pays or you can forget every $ of federal money and tax break you currently enjoy”.

Since it has the Bayer name, everyplace must follow the script. Because Americans and insurance will pay those higher prices, we will remain stuck, My insurance will not let me get prescriptions outside the US, even if it saves them money.
