He truly is the definition of a dead beat dad - knows it's his biological daughter and doesn't give two craps about her enough to even keep up with child supports payments. It doesn't matter if she's living a good financial life, he should do his duty and pay to help support the child he abandoned for another woman.

You're absolutely right. He should do his duty as a father and pay child support. Although according to some child custody laws, if you fail to contact a child within a year or more, you're probably going to given a termination of your parental rights, male or female. So he may very well be facing termination of his parental rights and maybe even charges for child abandonment as that's illegal.

@@PrincessQ-fj9ly yes. At least in the USA you have to go to court to terminate parental rights. After two years there’s pretty fair odds the judge would grant it. However if the absentee parent showed to court and protested the judge would usually allow them a period of time to return to visitation and pay child support. When a parent is in jail and cannot pay support or visit their child, the guardian still has to go to court to terminate rights. Due to friends having foster children, I am sadly aware of the process.

That's always so weird with this story formula. In what world is "Oh, you stole my tenth husband from me, the one I married a couple of months after you stole the previous one? Gottcha! He's actually also a loser, haha, how dumb of you to fall for his lies and charm!" a serious, flex-worthy comeuppance? Why would any child want to get to know a parent who both abandoned them and whom they don't even remember?
@little1942
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! She should send Kelly a fruit basket! If this is a true story in California, Kelly saved April a world of financial pain. I suspect the reason April didn’t divorce Simon is due to California’s “no-fault” divorce laws. If one spouse financially supported the other (and that person’s children) during the majority of the marriage, that spouse is on the hook for alimony. Even if the spouse was abusive or cheated on them. In this case, she might actually of had to pay child support for his kid too! But since he got remarried…😁 This actually happened to my mother (and almost to me as well). She had to pay alimony to man who quit work right after they got marriage and “became” to most violent, abusive psychopath I’ve ever laid eyes on. She was a waitress. You read that right. She had to pay alimony to her abuser! He’d actually done this 5 different times and then went on to do it other women! She eventually got custody of his son because he was so abusive and the boy’s mother was too afraid of her ex to fight for custody of her son. Having been in her position, I get it. My step father was the most evil person I’ve ever laid eyes on. To this day, I am more terrified of him than my former husband. And I almost didn’t get out of that marriage alive. Hopefully, April will find someone who will really love her and treat her (and her daughter) the way they deserves. If that’s what she wants.
