Great video. Broke the screen almost 6 years ago and put it away. I bought the screen on Amazon for $26.00 and received it yesterday. Took me 45 minutes, taking my time to complete it. I was able to change screen without disconnecting the main board. Everything turned out great. I put clear tape on the wheel and metal button before disassembly, to keep it together. Thank you for posting video.

hello, thanks for this video! just one question: my center wheel button feels loose (like if were pressed), I was thinking on buying the whole wheel including that button, but I noticed there are some black buttons on the mainboard, so what do you recommend?. thanks in advance.

see how firm is the push button on the main board, if it is firm then the problem is with the external center button.

I messed up my LCD following your steps without watching the video first, now I have to take my other's dad iPod classic. I had already taken a white one without his permission. I just wanted to fix the iPod classic's hard drive that was making noise.

When I get it apart would I be able to fix the headphone female part inside the unit? Is there a store where I could order it. Is it fixable by myself?
@conceptedge
9 жыл бұрын
Yes, the headphone jack (female) is a common point of failure. You can de-solder it and replace it with another. If you live in a big city, you could find one from an mobile phone repair shop, otherwise look on Amazon or eBay as this is a common part. Radioshack should have things like this, but they don't, that's one of the reasons they are failing, but I digress. In my channel you can find video about soldering and de-soldering, if needed.

+bondoguy Make sure the contact on both the button and the board are clean and free of moist, dirty, rust, etc. Also make sure your connectors are all properly inserted and there are no broken pins or wires.

Does the sync port (female part that the data cord plugs into) unscrew from the frame or motherboard? Or, is it soldered in place?
@conceptedge

No, it does not detach. The soldering is also very fine, so hard to work.

I am guessing it needs to be soldered back on, do I need to bring it in for a professional to fix? How would I know which connections it gets soldered to?
@conceptedge
9 жыл бұрын
Cary Stevens That's a tough one to do yourself. The pins are so small and you need special soldering iron and fine solder for surface mounted device. Normal soldering irons have tips way too big and the solder are too thick, unless you have a hoove-tip which then you can use the sliding method. The best thing is to replace the whole main board.

I'm looking to buy an original iPod older than this one, the woman says that the dial is broken I'm assuming she means the main button but how would I go about fixing it, will opening it up and cleaning it out have a chance to fix the problem?
@conceptedge

It is possible that there is a lot of dust and dirty built-up under the button to prevent good contact to the metal button on the circuit.

For years, the right side audio is dead and will only be heard if i depress earbud. What part of ipod beeds repair for that? Also, can I bring my 5th generation to get fixed at a local electronic repair shop? Are the costs low enough so that buying a new iPod won't be necessary?
@conceptedge
9 жыл бұрын
Lynda Floyd Yes, if you need to replace the audio jack or make sure its connections are not loose, it should be a simple job at the local electronic repair shop that doesn't cost much.

HI, do you offer repair services for this generation of iPod? I bought this years go pre-loaded with music and it stopped working. All I hear is a clicking noise and an occasional flicker of a white screen. Is it possible to repair without losing the music?
@conceptedge

The clicking nosie means the hard disk failed. I regret to say there is no other way to repair it except to replace the hard disk.

I have a mac and tried reformatting and it erased everything and now I can't seem to make it work with my mac or iTunes. I've been looking all over the internet and even called apple with no help? If someone out there can please give me some help it would be much appreciated. Thanks again!!!!!!

Not a bad video but the way you are moving those cases around with the two ribbon cables connected is not good practise IMO. Disconnect the battery as soon as you crack the case open and then the ribbon to the headphone jack PLEASE :)

Man this was painful to watch. It has to be the most careless Ipod takedown in the entire internet. Do not follow this steps. Never use a flathead screwdriver to open latches on the pcb. Never put tension on ribbon cables, unplug everything before completely opening up the ipod. The faceplate removal should only be done AFTER you unplugged the battery and headphone jack/lock button ribbon cable. There are many tutorials on youtube on how to correctly disassemble an ipod. Go over to those.
