I've had an MX Keys for almost a year now and it is a good keyboard. I've tried a few mechanical keyboards with different switches but I just don't care for them. I prefer a low profile keyboard over mech switches 🤷♂️ I have a couple of complaints about the MX Keys though. Number one being I wish it worked when wired. Unfortunately the cable is only for charging which seems kinda dumb. Also I wish I could just set the backlit to always be on. Also not a complaint about the keyboard but more Logitech... I wish I could order a US layout in Europe. I had to get the US International layout which isn't the same thing. As I switch between a few different systems and languages I find it easier to just stick with the ANSI layout but getting that layout outside of the US is very difficult/expensive. As I am not a big numpad user I would like a tenkeyless (TKL) MX Keys to save a bit of desk space. Maybe one day :) Also the Logitech software is garbage, don't waste your time with it, it works fine without it unless you really need the calculator button to work I guess. However I did really like the Apple keyboard as well and happily use it. I just wish the Apple one had backlit keys.

Totally agree - wish it could be used with a wired connection! This can be a hassle when holding Option while trying to boot into Windows through bootcamp, gotta really get your timing right with a wireless keyboard so it connects in time 🤦♂️ I actually have the K380 right now for my bedroom Mac mini set-up if you're looking for a similar but TKL keyboard. Generally very happy with it, same connectivity switching, a slightly more cramped typing position but very easy to live with for £30-40. Honestly, if the Magic Keyboard had backlighting I probably wouldn't have started looking for another keyboard, it's very good at what it does 💁♂️ Thanks for watching!

@@FamauMedia It’s hard to send boot up key presses using a Bluetooth keyboard because it’s unlikely the Bluetooth connection will lock in before the window for the Mac receiving the key presses closes. However, if you use the RF Unifying Receiver (the USB dongle), it’s just like using a USB wired keyboard and boot up key presses will register every time. I have both a Mojave and a Big Sur boot volume and while I can use System Preferences to go from Big Sur to Mojave I can get from Mojave to Big Sur only with boot up key presses because Mojave will not recognize the new secure volume of Big Sur (although it will read the data volume, just not the boot volume). I have been doing this regularly since I got my Logitech MX Keys for Mac keyboard.

Although there is no way to adjust the backlight shutdown/idle time, it is different depending on whether the keyboard is getting a charge or not. If the keyboard is not currently getting a charge, the backlight shuts off in 5 seconds. Since the proximity sensor turns it back in when you move your hands near the keys this isn’t a big deal but I can see how some people might not like it. If you are one of those people, you might consider keeping your keyboard plugged into power because the backlight will then remain on for 5 minutes instead of 5 seconds.

MX also works well in Linux and the quiet keys deal is very nice in an office environment. One of the most important things with the MX is that you can be connected to 3 devices, you can toggle between a Mac, a PC and a Linux or Android and toggle between them with a keystroke.

Cheers for the video! - waiting for mine to arrive, after many many many hours of research. There's actually 9 key differences on the mac version, if you include alt/opt/ctrl on both sides. Then again, the other key differences are entirely minimal. f4/insert/clear. I went for the mac version, as although I have a windows gaming rig, I switch out to a mechanical keyboard for that, for obvious reasons. This is replacing an ancient "Logitech S530 Mac" a keyboard/mouse combo I got back in 2008 and have used to the point where 5 of the keys no longer have any letter/symbol markings - worn off! It's been my primary coding keyboard for some time, despite having gone through numerous other keyboards in the last 13 years. If the MX keys last that long, I'll be happy - then again, sadly, it's unlikely that the lithium iron battery will last that long, but I guess it will be replaceable - the logitech craft is, with a little bit of effort.

Thanks for the review, really informative. I have been using an Apple wireless keyboard (with the replaceable batteries) for years then about a year ago bought a mechanical keyboard (Keychron K4). I can't say that it ever grew on me so I am going back on search for something else. I need the numeric pad as well, I hate typing numbers on a TKL keyboard. I am between the Mx Keys Mac and the Apple magic keyboard. I have a question for you: in my Mac mini I have FV activated. With the Apple keyboard I can just type my password when rebooting but with my mechanical keyboard I have to put it in "wired" mode to work. What is the case with Logitech? I am sure that if you use bluetooth mode you can't type your password in the boot screen, but If you use their receiver? Does it work then?

@JohnMHammer
3 жыл бұрын
I have not tested with File Vault but using any Bluetooth keyboard to enter your password for FV would require Bluetooth connections to be established beforehand. I don’t know if it does or not. If you can use an Apple Bluetooth keyboard to enter your FV password at boot up, then you can do it with any paired Bluetooth keyboard. If you can’t do it with an Apple Bluetooth keyboard and must use a wired keyboard, then it should work with the Logitech MX Keys keyboard if you connect using the RF Unifying Receiver (the USB dongle). As far as your Mac is concerned, using the Unifying Receiver means the keyboard is treated like a wired keyboard, it is “always” connected so you will be able to enter your FV password with no trouble or use boot up key presses (to select a startup volume or enter recovery mode, for example) just as your can with a USB wired keyboard.

I've got the Craft Keyboard and it's nearly the same thing. I keep it at home and I've been using a MacBook Air at work. I had no idea how much I love the Logitech Keyboard until I've been typing on it right now again after a few days. This thing feels so comfortable versus the Mac. The Mac desktop keyboard isn't so bad, but the laptop keyboard is no comparison to either deck.

Very good video. Have some question it makes a little bit confusing. 1. [Mac Option] As I understand you right then under Windows the Start and Alt buttons are changed as the normal Windows Keyboard layout. Right? 2. [Windows+Mac Option] Does I need to install a Logitech driver or any software on Windows side to use the control buttons left bottom correct without reverse? Or does it works it out of the box correctly on the depends on OS so it is already implemented in the keyboard hardware? 3. And do I need to have installed a Logitech software for switching through the different computers?

Is that true? And how is the bluetooth connection ? I would rely on that since my macbook doesn't have usb-a port. Does logitech feel sturdy compare to Magic keyboard? Can you charge MX key while using it at the same time? I wish I could try Mx key before I purchase. In my country, we couldn't return the product after purchasing if it's not a defect from the factory. Thank you very much and stay safe!

Hi Minna, Yep, the MX Keys is wireless only - the USB-C port is only for power delivery. Personally I use the included receiver plugged into my CalDigit dock, rather than the normal bluetooth 1/2/3 options. It seems a great stable connection, and connects immediately once switched on - I've also used it a few times with the iPad paired to bluetooth key 1, which has worked great. And yep, it's a very sturdy keyboard, feels much nicer than the Apple one and also considerably cheaper - I'm very happy with it!

Hi, very helpful review. I do hope your business situation improves. I only have a desktop Mac using the Apple keyboard without the numeric pad. Would you still advise buying the Standard MX. It's a standard UK layout with the "£" at Shift+3 - I don't think Logitech are very good with their product imaging, showing different area layouts on their sites and stores. We had another comment talking about the Enter key being different too, but I'm sure wherever you buy it from, it'll be the correct layout for the region you're in. Be careful on sites like Amazon though, I've seen all different layouts on the UK store (e.g. German, Spanish, French) so just make sure it's the UK English version. The link in the video description should be for UK English 🙂

the trouble with MX is that I lost connection via USB dongle as soon as I connected one bluetooth device, no way to get back or switch between BT and 2.4 (G915 has a separate switch). No doc included, this what is printed on the box is poor, no, it is ridiculous (with my current knowledge about just a few shortcuts available) and it does NOT work, I cannot use my dongle any more, whatever I do. The biggest drawback with this keyboard is the size - even two factor auth does not convince me to keep the numerical part in 2020, I need my mouse closer. I haven´t thought about it before but now I am just giving an advice - think about TKL keyboards! Yeap, I now consider to go buy the magic one.
