I have been an Apple Music user since it launched and I am just now trying Spotify since I lost my student discount and I have 4 months free of Spotify premium. I would agree that Spotify is so much better in the curated playlists but I just can’t bring myself to listen to music on it after being used to Apple Music and especially since Dolby Atmos came out. I didn’t expect to hear the difference so clearly but Spotify just feels flat, like 2D vs 3D and I doubt I’m going to keep Spotify even during those 4 months. The sound quality for me is really the dealbreaker in the situation

You need a dedicated higher end audio system to really appreciate lossless CD quality streaming. The minimum requirements are a high end speaker system or high end WIRED headphones, with an external DAC and amplifier. Bluetooth headphones due to Bluetooth limitations cannot transmit lossless CD quality music. You may want to upgrade your headphones as well, and use a very good set of wired ones.

I’ve only used apple music but recently I’ve been trying to switch to spotify because they just have way more. Like the unwrapped thing is very interesting and like getting to know your statistics and everything while apple music just has like a list of top songs and that’s it. I couldn’t really hear a audio difference if any. I like how u can easily look and like others playlists made by people and share your owns. There’s also way more available songs on spotify because when using apple music I would have to save a lot of songs to youtube instead because they didn’t have it on apple music while Spotify has like mostly every song. And sometimes I forget to pay or like don’t pay one month and for apple music, it completely just doesn’t let u access or even look at your music while in spotify u can and u can even play it just with ads. Spotify also may not have the animated cover arts but they do have like this video that plays sometimes on a song. And there’s probably more better features on spotify that I can’t think of rn but yea I think that spotify is definitely the better choice. :)

Lossless won’t work properly on wireless devices even though it’s showing “lossless” during the playback. Reason is simple, required bitrate and digital to analog conversion, both of which in case of wireless (even though you’re using LDAC enabled headphones) sucks, because of the obvious limitations. I see you’ve liked Dolby Atmos but it’s a sound manipulation rather than what the artist’s intentions actually are, during the production. Try listening to Apple lossless again but this time use.. say for example.. a pair of Sundara with dedicated external DAC. I know it’s not convenient but unfortunately that’s how we stand as of right now if we want to truly experience pure lossless audio. I personally use Q Acoustics 3030i paired with Cambridge Audio CXA61 wired with Apple TV, in my living room and let me tell you there’s a huge huge difference in terms of audio quality (compared to Apple’s old music streaming and Spotify’s current) Cheers

In addition, I'm using budget IEM from Linsoul Audio. The conclusion is the device, nothing else if you have the device then you are good to go. Because I'm using Both platforms. Once I started to use lossless on Apple Music I figured out the sound quality of Spotify. But still, Spotify managed to give the best quality of their side.

The android audio mixer resamples all audio to 48khz/24 bit so you aren't able to listen to high res audio on your phone even though it has an excellent dac. Even with an external dac, the app itself has to have an exclusive audio mode coded into it and so far Tidal is the only app on android that plays higher than CD quality but that is only through external dacs.

This video is pointless. Bluetooth simply is not capable of 24 bit/44.1khz that Apple Music lossless outputs. The DAC in the lightning to 3.5mm adapter is only capable of 24 bit/48khz. To reap the full benefits of the full lossless audio you need an external dac or to be plugged into the head unit or DSP in your vehicle via lightning to USB to maintain a full digital input (if running to a head unit, this only holds true if running optical into a DSP). Get an external DAC and make another video comparing the two. Better yet, try a fiio DAP with tidal, running wired hifi headphones. Not AirPods…

I don't think it was pointless at all. If you are a user that doesn't have wired headsets, then Lossless isn't really a benefit of Apple Music (nor Tidal for that matter). Therefore don't choose Apple Music for its lossless capabilities if you are only ever planning to use bluetooth headsets. Before this video (and the comments) I didn't know that. I was more interested in other elements between the two services as I am on an iPhone 13 Pro Max and use both Airpods Pro and Bose 700's. After some listening between the two (with a free 6 month Apple Music subs) I can say that Apple Music definitely sounds better. Even if you tweak the Spotify EQ it doesn't have the clarity of Apple Music on both types of bluetooth devices I use. The Apple Music UI though needs a lot of work to catch up to Spotify. Its pretty though... Maybe after some more use, I will understand how to drive it better 😉
