The instant he insists both "mothers" cannot be at the wedding simultaneously is the instant you need to face up to the fact that 1. he doesn't love you anymore (if he ever did) and 2. he's gotten back with his ex. That, and understand the person who is *there* for their child, teaching them right from wrong, is their parent. Not the biology-donor. The person who is *THERE* is the parent. Also, never accept the BSer's word for the truth.

Mary the bomb! First to help with confusion in my story, Father= biological father, and Dad= Stepdad. Anyway, My father abandoned us when I was 8. My mom married my dad when I was 10. At 25 I got married, and although I was in contact with my bio father occasionallyat that point, my dad walked me down the aisle and I did the father-daughter dance with my dad. As far as I was concerned my dad is the one that raised me, supported me, fixed my boo boos, taught me to ride a bike and drive, beat the crap out of an ex that slapped me, taught me how to properly use a gun and knife to protect myself, paid for my college, but most importantly he loved me like I was his bio daughter. I did invite my father to the wedding, but sat him and his (I believe 4th wife by then) with the guests, not with the family.

How does Mary remember all this stuff about him when she was a baby? I have always considered that one stops being a baby at 3 or 4 years of age. Most people don't remember anything from before age 3, unless it was traumatic. I also think I read that memories from when we were under 5 or so, are not fully cohesive and remain spotty and incomplete.

I feel like Denise should have asked Mary what was going on when she was saying goodbye but at least Mary asked questions & was able to clear things up. It's sad what happened & Denise thought she was being respectful but it might be a good idea to clarify if Mary wasn't in the conversation with Derek especially since Mary made it clear she thought Derek was talking about Denise while Derek was was being vague & not explaining shit. Also feels odd that Mary says her bio mom abandoned her & Derek when Mary was a newborn baby thanks to the mom cheating but near the end Mary says she still remembers seeing her dad look at photos of her bio mom while looking miserable after the divorce. Given Mary mentioned him doing shit to try to get a wife when she was in preschool I guess he left a massive impression when she was a toddler. I'm glad Mary wanted Denise to be part of her life/wedding, she knew her mother & it wasn't her bio mom. It's a shame Derek turned out to be so desperate for a wife he neglected/annoyed Mary when she was younger. Ignoring what Derek did at the start they made it sound like guy that just happened to be a hopeless romantic cause he wanted his first love back plus Mary talking about how she loved her dad he went to far only for as time went on Mary admits that while she had good memories of Derek he was actually a neglectful father that only cared about making himself physically look good to get a wife. I can't imagine what'd happen if he never met Denise mostly cause Mary needed a proper parent in her life. I want to imagine Derek tracked down his ex & kept bugging her, desperate for her to return while telling her it's her fault his life was ruined especially since she ran off again. Probably makes people uninterested with her & talking about her so whatever the fuck she's doing to live a gold digger life style isn't working out. She's desperate & pays him before running off to hide while Derek leaves to be miserable & try to sort his life out.
