It's nice to get stories where the protagonist isn't a weak doormat and the husband is supportive, AND they do the logical thing and involve the law!

Its more likely that George was raised by a nice guy father. Maybe Georges mother was equally abusive to Georges father? Then Georges father would have died of chronic stress disorder, George would have witnessed his mothers abusive behavior as a child/youth and blame her for his father's death.

OP needs to pull all records of the money she sends, and take videos and pictures of all she does for Rachel. Then, when she gets complaints, she can just send screenshots, videos, and emails of everything she does, then say "I'm so sorry everything I've done isn't enough. Since I'm not a good daughter-in-law, I will stop those payments, and stop helping at all. Since I'm no good anyways." Well....Damn.... She is doing exactly what i was just about to say.... That's my girl!

@@HecatateAgreed. I don't even make that much period. the MIL should've been counting her blessings to have a DIL that not only sent 2000 a month but also came over and cleaned her house and took her to appointments. She is a total piece of work, she lies to the DIL to make her do things for her, gets greedy and decides it's not enough so she starts lying to everybody else to pressure her to /keep/ doing stuff for her or to do even more, and then whips up a mob to threaten her. I do wonder how convincing of a liar she was to not only get her other family members on her side but even just her /neighbors/. She had to be pulling the wool over everybody's eyes.

There is a common misconception that only the mother is responsible for bringing up a child. It is deeply ingrained in the cultural upbringing for most humans. That is the case most of the time, but not always. There usually is a dad involved as well. Specifically "small men" tend to imitate "big men" in the family to a degree. Plus there is a possibility that a mid income family has two kids. Psycho mothers often dote on the younger kid, even more often if that one is female, and completely ignore the older son.

Funny how the main character's name went from "Clara" to "Carla". Even funnier that her husband's name was "Cameron" at the beginning but then mutated into "George".

What I’d like to see is a story where the main character is petty enough to ensure they are seen with the antagonist, then completely disappear without a trace, and the antagonist ends up dealing with the consequences because everyone will naturally assume the worst. Then pop back in without a care several years later, saying their work needed them on a project they wanted to keep low profile.

Fate of Rachel: After she and her group were forced to pay the settlement fees, they ganged up on her and beat her down and they hold her up and talked trash. She was beaten in a brutal way and they forced to to pay the settlements on their behalf as it was her that was the ring leader in all of this. Her husband decided to divorce her and left and she was left to fend for herself and had to get a part time job to pay off all of the debts. People found out what she really is and they started picking on her and her life ended up destructing and she had to work and deal with all the torment for the rest of her life. She is pretty much working like a slave at this point as 80% of her pay goes to her DIL and she has to pay on their behalf. They all cut ties with her and a lot of them ended up avoiding her and some actually bully her and beat her down as she is to blame for all of this.

In west Europe or USA, women would say they are fed up with the MIL. The husband plead for forgiveness won't fix anything. Women are straightforward: your mum is a piece of work and I won't work with her anymore.😢

The problem lies with the ENABLER and the DOORMAT who allowed others to walk all over them. Never hide financial dealings with family members with your spouse, no matter what, it's a breach of trust. Especially when you have a wonderful spouse who supports you. No MIL or DIL have the authority to insult or abuse one another. If either one of them is abusive, then you better go no contact and cut them out of your life for good. Learn to speak what is right from wrong, shut them down when required, and speak what is on your mind. Learn to use the powerful word "NO", but use it wisely, because it could also backfire when not used appropriately. Speak up and stand up for yourself, and please stop with the crap of tolerating for peace in the family $hit.

That means in the end, George's mother and her little group lost everything from money to reputation. I'm assuming that George's uncle lost his promotion or got fired, and is fighting with his sister, blaming her for what happened. And the rest that got involved are probably no longer in contact with that mother. If they had spouses that were not involved that found out what happened afterwards, then chances are that they were forced to cut contact with her or because of them shame and embarrassment of their actions, probably filed for divorce. It's a pity that non of those involved ever served jail time.
