Linus if you get Anthony to look at the chipsets that’s in the 🖥 iMac.... I think your find the answer there because they’ve designed that i9 chip from boat up to distribute the workload regardless of how much current is being supplied even though that’s been monitored by one the chipsets. It’s the design of the motherboard... I would appreciate it if you could look into this via the web or probably opening it up I don’t know. Not just running software just find out how it runs best. I say this in hindsight with Anthony‘s knowledge I’m quite sure who should be able to figure out I would appreciate it can regards Tim.

Do your research mate: 1) You can upgrade to a 256GB SSD for a fairly decent price given the quality of Apple's SSDs, even on the lowest 2019 model. The price of the upgrade includes a great SSD, stellar customer support and snappy returns, something you don't get (from my own personal experience) when custom building a PC (individual part returns will cost you your entire system for the duration of the part's absence, which for me, at least when I had parts replaced, took upwards of 2-3 weeks). 2) Even though an 5400rpm hard drive isn't great by today's standards, MacOSs OS-level method of grabbing files still makes the experience tolerable, unlike on Windows, where anything less than an SSD is completely unbearable. Linux is still a great option for snappy file retrieval on the PC side of things, however. 3) A 2.5" HDD isn't a laptop HDD. That's just pure misinformation. Smaller HDDs are favoured in builds that don't have a lot of space. They are frequently used in mATX and MiniPC builds. Since there are space limitations due to the width of the iMac, a 2.5" HDD is a better option.

And actually, part for part, the iMac is hard to beat. You can definitely build a cheaper PC. But not an i9 rig with the same specs and parts as the iMac. The thing is, most folks wouldn’t necessarily go with the high end workstation parts that Apple uses. Linus did a video a while back where he compared the price of building an identical PC to the iMac pro and came out around $200 over.
@batsonelectronics
5 жыл бұрын
He just showed that the same specs in a windows machine is the same cost, $2700. I usually see the prices with either no Windows or Home version. You need 10 pro to stop the stupid forced updates. The real issue is, you only get to choose what Apple offers and for many, their parts are not what YOU want. If you want what they offer, the price is comparable. And the GPU is dedicated, just not replaceable.
@RomansFiveDotEight
5 жыл бұрын
batsonelec C Exactly. Often, a home built PC (which is what I use myself) is better simply because you can choose what to spend your money on. For example, with a $2700 budget, a 2080Ti and i7 combo makes a lot more sense than an i9/Workstation GPU combo for gamers. But... part for part, Apples prices are actually pretty competitive. Originally, no iMac was ever intended as a pro machine, actually. You wanna see real bias? He inflated the comparable PC's price with a top of the line motherboard meant for overclocking, and a 1300 dollar prosumer grade 4K IPS display from Asus, and a few other minor components that are still better than what Apple gives you. But that display is the main thing here. You can get prosumer grade displays comparable to the iMac's for HALF that price. In fact you can get an actual 27 inch 5K IPS from Ilyama for 700-800 dollars. In other words, even if we keep everything else the same, if we give the PC the most directly comparable display available, you're still paying a 500 dollar Apple tax for the form factor, and you don't get any of the features the PC has, like full upgradeability, better power delivery and non-shit peripherals. But this is a moot comparison anyway, because Apple's configuration is retarded and no one actually considering the iMac would ever build their own rig, even if they could hack MacIntosh onto it. Though I checked, and the configuration Linus picked *is* overall compatible with hackintoshing if you're into that. Though you could save some money and go for a 3700X build that would be even easier to hackintosh anyway. Oh, but muh recyclable materials, who even gives a shit Linus.

I think it isnt worth it. you're better off with the 2060 or 2070. I think the 2080 is Def getting bottlenecked in terms of rtx Ray tracing tech. 2060 is a 1070 and the 2070 is the 1080 (I think). But other than that, not worth for but if want to get it now then it's also wise Nvidia might rease the prices

I know very little about computers. I just surf the net and download videos and pictures into my old IMAC which gave out on me recently. I just ordered a 27 IMAC 5k and selected the least expensive model a 6 core 8th gen I5 something with a A 3.0 MHZ. I upgraded from a 1TB Fusion drive to a 1 TB of SSD for an extra 500 bucks. Hope I made a wise choice in going from fusion to SSD.

Same as me. I heard it is worth paying 500 bucks for SSD.
