Not an audiophile here but I bought a few years ago some B&W headphones, I saved the money and I loved them. Saved hard earned money again took the gamble of buying the AirPods Pro 2 as every review said they were outstanding and a true upgrade from the version 1. Man, glad I did, my B&W’s are now on the bay hoping to go to a new home.

As I sit in a hotel room in NYC with Covid rather than mixing shows with the New York Philharmonic, I am going back and forth between the original and the version 2's. No contest, version 2 is far superior. Much more transparent. They really come in handy killing the sound of the fan on in the room too! I can hear it with the originals, but not the version 2's. Glad I grabbed them on my walk back from Lincoln center to my hotel.....

I wasn’t planning on upgrading from AirPods Pro gen 1 until I heard about the audio improvements. When the gen 2 went on sale during Prime Day, I used my credit card points to purchase them. You’re review of its audio improvements are spot on. I noticed the bass improvements immediately. I experienced a “wow” moment! I also agree with your comments on Spatial audio. It is still too inconsistent for me to enable it. And I was hoping to love it.

Many will not understand how great spatial audio really is. If you have Apple TV you will understand it though. Some people invest a lot of money in their own home movie theater setup. No point in doing that if you got spatial audio as Airpods have. It's a next-level thing.

Ok, this is uncanny... I live in Berlin too. I'm using the AirPods Pro Gen 1 for 2 years now just for phone calls, podcasts and Apple TV. For music listening I got the Soundcore Liberty Pro 3 or the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro (I'm a musician). Didn't want to buy the Gen 2 AirPods at all. Now comes the uncanny part. A music producer from HH who's a friend of mine told me I gotta try them out. I am currently on a business trip in Malaga, Spain and bought them at the local apple store last week. Lov'em to death... Now it's just the AirPods for everything and the DT 770 for professional use when I'm back home... :)

Thanks for another honest review. There have been many positive reviews posted for the AirPods Pro 2, but yours is more appreciated because you approach your reviews from both a functionality as well as an audiophile point of view. One minor correction - when you say that Apple Music Spatial Audio is a great combination for Apple Music users with Apple AirPods devices, this is only partially correct. The advantage that Apple AirPods devices have with Spatial Audio is that you can set your iOS device on Automatic Mode for Dolby Atmos and the AirPods chip will detect when a track is using Dolby Atmos (Spatial Audio) and turn the feature on. However, if you just turn on Dolby Atmos all the time, you can use the feature with ANY headphone, and it will still use Dolby Atmos when the music track is encoded with it. I do this all the time with my 7Hz Timeless IEMs (combined with an Audioquest Cobalt DAC) and the sound quality, as you said, is just outstanding. Thanks for the tip on Talking Heads...I'm going to check out those new Spatial Audio recordings now. BTW, most, if not all, of the Beatles catalog is also available with Spatial Audio in Apple Music, and it also sounds outstanding.

Very interesting to hear your take on spatial audio at the end. I’ve always been interested in the surround sound mixes for albums, but not so much to steer the sound around my head, but to hear the extra layers of separation that the remixing process ultimately provides. Quite often, in fact, I’d take a surround mix then down-mix it back to stereo, so that I could listen on my headphones and it sounds phenomenal. Really hope this takes off in some way that headphone enthusiasts like myself can easily access it, as I’d love everyone to be able to hear what I hear, without having to do all the down-mixing process. Great video as always, thank you 😊

But of course no ANC or sub bass, etc. Yesterday I gave a many year old perfect pair of v1 to my 11 year old, still holding a charge; very happy to see that. Anyone else have difficulty getting proper fit from included tips? It concerns me as I may pick up a pair TODAY. I had a licensed audiologist look at my ear canals. He said nothing seemed odd about my shape. They start on the large side and then taper down. As a fan of 3rd party tips I’m also conflicted about whether it will compromise sound quality. I‘d like to comment on the spatial audio bit. I wholeheartedly agree that a good spatial or immersive mix sounds amazing on any kind of headphones. As you said, the separation is far better. Instruments and vocals don‘t have to fight for space on the stereo axis anymore. What bugs me though is the fact that there are different spatial audio versions. Apple uses Dolby Atmos, Sony their 360 Audio and both need hardware from those companies to fully appreciate the spatial effect. I‘ d love to have every song or album being released in a standard binaural headphone mix, in addition to stereo or whatever kind of multichannel audio. Binaural has been around for years, can easily be created from any multichannel source material and you can experience it with any ordinary headphone, tws or iem. Btw I am a big fan of Kraftwerk‘s catalog in 3D (on Apple Music) and Jean Michel Jarre‘s binaural recordings and will definitely check out the new Talking Heads mixes. Thanks for the tip!

The ability of hearing around you, and hear yourself talk while in transparency mode on the AirPods Pro2 is really good, and at least from my own experience transparency mode on the APP2 handle wind better than the WF1000XM4. The wind cancelling option on the XM4s works better than the APP2s noise cancellation, but in turn the APP2 noise cancellation works better than the XM4 without the wind cancellation option on. As someone who swaps between modes a fair amount, with my preference of the ergonomics of the AirPods Pro, and the volume control on gen 2 have moved the APP2 to my most used earbuds unless I’m being terrible and riding a bike with earbuds where the wind cancellation of the XM4s excel

I also subscribe to your findings, that SPATIAL Audio will only progress within the area of headphones. It is so much effort (let alone from a cost-factor) to wire and setup/tune a 5.1 system. And then, I am not even thinking about Dolby-Atmos. You have to find a (proper) Place/space for 1 Subwoofer (which is an acoustic challenge on top [modes!]) 2 surround speakers (most wives hate !! them) AND a (good !!) Center Speaker. Yes, more than 50% of all surround-audio info is transported by the center. Perhaps this is the reason, why the soundbar-market was going thru the roof. And then (once installed) you should compensate for phase-shifts, modes, echos, and distortion (aka: room correction, which is an art by itself). When it comes to unobtrusive INSTALLATION of such setups your only choice is IN-WALL. But you can only do that if you: Refurbish your home, or built a new one (and consider it from the very beginning) AND you have to have DEEP Pockets. If you are going for good sound, the In-wall speaker system + installation will set you back by approx €5.000 (or greater). And then, currently only a few vendors are offering good quality in-wall speakers (KEF, FOCAL, PERLISTEN). Do not forget, that you cannot just „cut-out-the-shape and cram them in“. Even in-wall speakers need something equivalent to a box air-volume (just inside the wall). So you need good wood-craft to include/built these shapes in your wall as well, and some acoustic expertise how to size & design this. And last but not least: You can only enjoy a 5+1 (or greater) system, if you have a house! Any other apartment-living situation is dB-wise limited to the acoustic absorption of your walls vis-a-vis your neighbors. Police visits granted …! So in an nutshell: Spatial Audio = for Headphones 😊

Yep. I work in feature films and I’ve been to several dub mixing theaters. AirPod Pro basically made me use less and less my atmos setup. It even tricks me into believing my Center channel is on, it’s really good.

Trying to decide between the AirPod pro 2 or the Bose qc 2 earbuds as a complement to my Bose 700’s. Your video was great! I didn’t immediately see a review of the Bose on your channel. Hopefully they interest you enough to review them soon.

Any IEM review should comment on how easy they are to clean. My Jays are very good in that respect.

Just an fyi. It’s important for me, though I know not for everyone, to get some kind of comparison between wireless iem’s and wired iem’s. I don’t know if you own a pair of Campfire Audio Honeydew iem’s but that would be perfect, but I think the Campfire iem’s you own are more expensive than the Apples. I don’t much care if iem’s are wireless or wired, I’m more concerned about sound and comfort, so for me, separating them in reviews doesn’t make sense though I understand that most people may consider these to be two very different product categories. Thanks for your interesting videos!

I’m fed up of forking out hundreds of Pounds for Apple ear buds that ‘mysteriously’ develop glitches once the warranty expires. I bought 1st gen AirPods & 1st gen AirPods Pro,that I took great care of,that I’m now expected to spend more money on aftercare, because Apple decided that they haven’t extracted enough money from my pockets yet.

Hello John , always enjoy your videos, just for information, I have the new Pixel 7 phone and the Pixel Buds Pro IEM , when I was setting them up. Google has an ear sealing test. So I find Buds to very clean and good low end. The sound cancelling works well and the transparent mode is on par with Apple.
