In Airport Extreme you don't have HDD inside, so it would be nice to transfer data more quickly than 30MB/s, it has gigabit ethernet port and 802.11ac :)

Both provide wifi, the difference is the Time capsule comes with storage (hard drive) built-in. Beautiful and simple, and even though I do use and love Apple products, these are way too expensive. (Especially since these are essentially "behind the scenes" products. I use Motorola router from my cable company and my own hard drives instead of these, saving me hundreds of $$$.) Nobody ever sees these devices, they only see my beautiful Mac Pro.

you can get 125MB/S from a nas to a computer. you just have to buy a proper nas rather than using external harddrives. those usb ports were never meant to be use as storage in the first place. they are usually extremely slow. I have a usb 2.0 port that operates at 10mb/s. those ports were not meant for heavy io but more for convenience like hooking up a printer.

Most good routers are in this price category. In networking, paying more usually means better quality. Airports are among the best performing routers on the market.

most ac routers are in the $160-$200 range. from my experience, apple routers are pretty reliable and up with the cisco routers. so the price would be ok if it matched the cisco router (the ea6500 is $200)

I know, but what I try to say is that if I want to plug my HDD to AE I'll only have 30MB/s because it's limited by USB 2.0. I will only get this 125MB/s if I'll transfer data between computers, no from NAS to computer.

I bought the apple extreme base station and it doesn't give me the strong range signal my old wndr3700 use to give me. It's located at the same spot about. At about 50-60ft distance it's signal starts to drop. I'm surprise because when I bought it I was told it carried technology strong enough to give me the best range and I'm really disappointed. I've heard the netgear R6300 has great range. Just any opinion will help in thinking of returning the base station back for a different type of modem.

not until it gets cheaper. my house has the worst placed walls for wireless signals. also my family lives across 3 floors (im in the basement, we all go the the main floor, and my family is in the second floor). our network is ridiculously robust with (ea3500 as the router, e2000 as ap, wrt160n as another ap, wire switch from asus, and a powerline kit from dlink). upgrading just the routers to ac will be over $600 at these prices.

It really sucks that the USB-connected storage to time capsule can't be detected by DLNA enabled devices like smart tv or Xbox one, and - therefore you have to have your Mac enabled all the time to AirPlay or host a media server -.-
