A very late celebration for 2,000 subscribers!
I thought it best to upload one of my favourite George songs from All Things Must Pass for my 2k celebration! I can't thank everyone enough for watching these videos for so long, through all the changes my channel has made, and through the few and far between collars!
I don't have much to say for the song other than the facts of how I recorded the Guitars;
In the original song, it's most likely that George would have used his Gibson J-200 Jumbo for the recording. However, as I don't have a J-200, for the Acoustic Guitar parts, I used my Epiphone EJ-160e, mic'd - as you can see - with my Rode NT1-A, placed just behind the bridge, and angled towards the 12th Fret/Soundhole. The guitar is also recorded with the capo on the second fret. To achieve the very brushy sound of the pick striking the strings, I tried to play moderately soft without changing the dynamic of the song. In my DAW, I added a small amount of Plate Reverb to both Acoustic parts, to mimic Spector's use of Plate Reverb. I also EQ'd both guitars, removing some higher frequencies above around 2-3kHz.
For the Slide Guitar part, it's very likely that George played his Fender "Rocky" Stratocaster, so for my video, I'm using my modified Squier 50's vibe Stratocaster. I recorded the parts through my small, cheap Squier SP-10 amplifier, to replicate the tone of George's Fender Champ Amplifier, which he used for his early slide work. I recorded this part with my Rode NT1-A, placed around a foot or more away from the sound hole. In my DAW, I applied many effects, such as Plate Reverb, slight Flange, and very slight Delay.
