Me as a professional product designer I just cannot afford dealing with broken color calibration of asus/dell/lg/samsung, those have DCI-P3 only for marketing. And 4K resolution gives only problems with Mac. And also I just can’t deal with cheap black plastics and design made for babies (lamps, bells & whistles) So, yes it costs 2k (with height adjust) but there is NO alternative … only thing I wish it had is Pro Motion and ability to connect two devices simultaneously. About camera - I don’t care about quality, most important it’s there and I don’t have to think about it. At work zoom calls nobody puts me full screen anyway.

The lack of features will be a deal-breaker for the vast majority of people who’re in the market for a new monitor. The studio display is overpriced, the built-in webcam is mediocre, there’s no HDR support, it uses an IPS panel instead of mini LED, there’s no promotion support. It’s unfortunate that Apple hasn’t put more attention into this market. They could easily produce a mini-LED external monitor with a refresh rate to match ProMotion. I would argue that they could cut production costs by leaving off speakers and a webcam. Separate speakers would almost always be better. And if you have an iPhone the Continuity Camera feature renders built in webcams essentially irrelevant.

The fact that you can order it with the way to expensive height adjustable stand or vesa mount is just ridiculous. I was close to buy one, but I changed my desk and realize that I can't change my mind about having my monitor with a stand or vesa mount. It has some nice features but it's easily overpriced, and being Apple the same that created a magnetic power cord for the iMac, having now a permanent power cord attached to the monitor is hard to believe. As a MacBook Pro user I prefer using a monitor with a better selection of ports, 4k display, 27 inch and an "ugly" look, than paying for something as expensive as a MacBook that can only display something.

"The studio display is the quickest to summon, giving you an almost instant wake." The fact that this is a "feature" is enough reason for me to not get this monitor ethically. This shouldn't be a feature. Any 3rd party display should give you an almost instant wake (like it happens with the vast majority of windows computers), and the fact that that isn't the case, means apple has deliberately done this, which is shady as hell in my opinion and not a business practice I want to support monetarily.
@ThisIsE
2 жыл бұрын
I mentioned this as an observation. From all the monitors I’ve tried, none wake just as fast even if they are not plugged into anything…
@manueltedesco
2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsE It is a perfectly valid observation, because I'm sure it is the case that no other 3rd party monitor will wake your mac like this one or the xdr display does. I just don't agree with apple making this a feature deliberately. Any monitor should wake up your mac just as fast in 2022, to me that is unacceptable.
@ThisIsE
2 жыл бұрын
Maybe I didn't express myself correctly, Manuel. The time needed for a monitor to wake up is not determined by the signal that comes from the computer but by the product itself. The fact that the Studio Display wakes up instantly is a feature of the monitor itself, not how Apple controls monitors in general. This can easily be observed with other monitors when the watch unlocks it before the display is even awake - not the case with the Studio Display. You can be just as disappointed in other brands for creating slow monitors.
@MrBokkyboy
2 жыл бұрын
I think your complain should be to other monitor manufacturer's. THEY need to keep up. They are the ones lacking this future not apple
@manueltedesco
2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsE You think so? Maybe it is the case that they included a feature on this display to make it awake up instantly, even if not plug in to a computer. I don't know if this is a verified fact. But I have the hypothesis that macs have a weird way of communicating with external monitors and apple's displays have been optimized to wake up perfectly. Not becase the display has a feature within it that makes it faster, but because apple has made their os to communicate best in that "language." I don't have an apple watch and haven't plugged the iPad to my external display to test this. I just know that my 3rd party display has no problem instantly waking up my windows pc (as all my other monitors have) but has a hard ass time waking up my mac, as many others have reported and am sure you've experienced yourself. Maybe testing this would be a good video idea, since this is a conundrum macs have been experiencing since the beginning of time and nobody (thatI've seen) has figured it out.
