I came here for the patina, stayed for the personality. Many thanks for the tricks. I have a couple of questions: At 17:01 1) What kind of prep did you apply to your polymer clay owl figure? It's necessary to do it to every polymer clay figure or just for the patina? 2) What kind of metal covering did you use? I mean, is that something different from acrylic paint bronze, copper....? Many thanks!

Hi there. Thanks for watching! Prep is a product used prior to applying Swellegant! It keeps the coatings strong and scratch resistant. Using Prep every time you use Swellegant! is best. Here's a link to this product: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h206982bs The metal coating is Swellegant! metal coating. You can find all the Swellegant! products including the metal coating in the link in the description of the video! Thank you!!

Dear Keriel, did you know that you can buy a mini set of ALL the Swellegant stuff for only about 35 U.S. dollars. I bought it and it's great. You get all the different metals (which are real metal powders suspended in an acrylic base), all the Patinas, all the dyes and everything else - like the base coat and top coat - that you need to do these great finishes. The only items you will need to pay extra for are some paint brushes. You will need a couple of very fine brushes to do the fine work with and a couple of filbert brushes (which are flat with a rounded edge) with which to lay down the larger layers of metal and patina. Synthetic brushes are fine and you can buy them very cheaply from eBay or local art and craft stores. I really hope this helps you. Yours sincerely, Amanda in Australia 🙂🙂 💕

What is the ratio of dye to sealant? Can you mix patina and sealant? I didn't hear her say. Thanks for the video!
@FireMountainGems
7 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend mixing the sealant.The sealant is used after you are all finished with your dyes and metals to secure the desired finish achieved. As for the colorants, metals and dyes, she states you can pretty much mix and match to your hearts desire. We do have more videos on Swellegant that you may find helpful. You can view them here: fmg.co/wlEdcd Thanks, Michelle

Can I also ask: at the moment, how many dye oxides are available......13 right? I know that there is 5 metal coatings so far (brass bronze silver iron copper), right? And also, how many patina are available so far....4 right? As far as the other things go, there is also only a prep and a clear sealant, right? Or am I missing something in these different ranges available? Thank you!

Great questions. We have 7 dye-oxides, 5 metal coatings, 4 patinas, 1 sealant and 1 surface prep as well as some mixes of these: fmg.co/6RpgCb.

Thank you Christi for a really fun video. I was wondering can I use the Swellagent metals on metal jewellery pieces, like filigrees or charms? I've got some gorgeous copper charms by Nunn Design and I'd love to patina them with green verdigris patina. What do you think Christi? Do I have to coat the copper with another layer of the liquid copper metal that is in the Swellagent range, before I can add the patina? If anyone knows what I should do, please let me know. Thank you in advance. From Amanda in Australia ❤️

Can this be baked after applying? (All products - dye, metal, patina, sealant) For example, if you’re making a polymer clay fairy house...and you want to coat parts like door hinges with the metal & patina... Ccan you do that as you go along and continue to bake the house as needed when adding more clay details; or should the metal coating & patina parts wait until the end and then do it and/or glue those bits on? I hope that makes sense!

Does the Swellegant products range have a “use-by” date as in; does it expire?
@FireMountainGems
6 жыл бұрын
Any liquid product will dry out eventually. The recommendations for storage for this product is in a cool dry place with the lid tight so air doesn't get exposed to the product. Following these recommendations will prolong the life of the product. In looking at a bottle, there isn't an expiration date printed on the bottle. I hope that helps.
