Today’s photo is of George Bennett, Class of 1955, holding a replica of a $2 bill.
Bennett is known for rallying Clemson fans to carry $2 bills to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech game as the Yellow Jackets refused to play in Clemson were ready to expire their contract to play Clemson in Atlanta.
The bills were unique and were intended to show the folks running businesses in Atlanta the economic impact of Clemson paying Georgia Tech.
Trivia Question
There is no data to say how much financial impact the bills had, but the legend is greater than the reality as the $2 bills did not actually change Georgia Tech’s decision not to play in Clemson as a home and home. What made that change?
