Great work on the company! Crane looks good. Good to see the layout is 100% cat approved!

Wow, I don't know how this comment slipped through unanswered for a month. Anyway, thanks for watching! Winston really enjoys chewing on the power lines. I can't count how many times I've had to repair them.

it is done so you can find the switch in a dark room, when the lights are on the switch has no reason to be lit as the lights are on, but when it is dark, you need the light to find the switch and turn it on.

That...sounds completely logical and I should have figured it out for myself!

Great video! Love the scratch built crane/truck. Just thought Id share a quick idea with you. When I upgraded my original Diggitrax DCC decoders to Soundtraxx, I saved all the old ones. I have been using them in my cabooses. I then install a set of Athearn HO 100-Ton Truck w/Electrical Pickups to get track power to the decoder. Then I use Pre-wired Micro PTFE Wired 0603(1.60x0.80mm) RED SMD LEDs. Tiny tinny LED’s with a resistor. After mounting the LED’s one in each end of the caboose, I then connect 1 LED to each of the decoders headlight output channels. I then program the decoder wit a cab number or DCC address assigned to my cabooses. Each caboose has its own address. Then in the decoder, I program the headlights to act as a FRED ( Flashing Rear End Device ). Then when a caboose is assigned to a train I log into the cabooses DCC address and turn on the headlights, and select the proper headlight direction with the forward or reverse key. So that the rear end of the caboose’s FRED is now flashing. Then I log back into my trains DCC address and am ready to run! I also add a little bit of weight to the caboose, while I have it apart.

Yes, glad you aren't deceased!! Martin at Marklin of Sweden channel guy is a real ace with cutting Styrofoam too. He even built his! I found that the NYSL Chopper and Accu-Sander very helpful.

I watch him but don't remember him talking about cutting styrofoam. I must have missed that one. I use his water technique though! I will look into those tools.

Building supply looks great. Throw a small relay in caboose and you can wire that to latch. The cranes and narrow guage also look great. A side note, when you put the caboose roof on water it looked like there was an accident and the water was shallow so only the roof was visible. Quite cool really. I may try it on my layout .

Thanks Bob. Electronics is not my strongpoint, so I would need to do some research to do that. Unfortunately I'm extremely lazy...

I did a Bowser caboose with a flashing circuit and 2 flashing red LED's powered with a AA battery. I used the same style micro-switch but drilled 2 holes in the floor and filed a square opening and mounted. it down through the floor so I can switch it on-off from the underside of the caboose.
@longislandrailroadmontaukb982

I couldn't do that because of the full-length weight in the way. Flashing would be cool though.

Regarding the latching reed switches, what you describe sounds just like what the early Rapido passenger cars used, at least how they operate the lighting. (Do they still? I don't know, it's been years since I bought anything new from Rapido.)
