The EDEN Project-02 BUNKER STORAGE SYSTEM for canned goods, root crops, eggs, milk, and cheese.
Preparing for 2nd pour:
Remove the slip form. Backfill around the outer cement wall. Resit slip form in place. Build a raised deck to mix the cement. Add the 4 ft. inner box frame. Load the sand and gravel and Portland cement powder. READY to POUR.
In the 3rd video of this DIY Root Cellar build. Everything should be in place where I can show you how easy it is to hand mincemeat in a wheelbarrow. A small cement mixer would be ideal for this small project.
This last pour took a tad over 7 bags of Portland cement. The foundation took 3. Next time use a 5 bag pour.
This cement pushed the foam board out on the inside walls. Easy fix to fir out and cover with a second layer of foam board and cover with a ranch wall cedar siding.
Cost so far for wood, metal mesh, rerod and cement approximately 1,700.00 including delivery. Plus, another 300.00 for 10 sheets of 1 1/2 foam board.
A 25 kilo bag of quickrete runs about 10 bucks CDN. A 72 bags per yard that's a small fortune for premix. I'm thankful that I'm able to recycle the gravel that was pulled out of the hole. Along with lots of small rock.
