@@AprilRideMTB April, I was thinking about how to overcome your fear of the Whale's Tale. Ask yourself this, if the Whale's tail was just dirt...would you fear it? I have no experience with these things, but I am pretty sure that the Whale's tale is just an illusion. It's an elevated illusion but regardless, is it really different than a dirt jump? If you can visualize it as a dirt jump, I'm pretty sure you can convince yourself to do it (overcome the fear). The second thing to try is ask yourself, "what is the worst thing that could happen if I don't land this thing correctly? What would that look (and feel) like? If you can accept that, then that may also help you overcome your fear. FYI, I have very few challenges where I ride (middle of nowhere Alaska), but one of the is a set of very uneven stairs made of wood and gravel. There are different flights within those stairs and I have made it down 2 sets which is my limit because the next set is very sketchy. I have weighed the risks and I won't do it. What I am telling you is that I understand fear and consequences and respect whatever you decide (like Kyle). Best of luck...Dan

@AprilRideMTB

Yeah it definitely can be scary stopping on it, but it's such a short whale tail and we watched first hand two people in a row try it and case the on part and flip over the bars off of it. Then this past week some kid broke their back on it doing the same thing. I was just scared for April to get hurt and wanted her to work up to it. Honestly I think it needs to get extended re done a little bit because it's so technical at the moment and has been claiming people left and right

Wussup from Aussie, 1st congrats on these jumps, guess it’s a little like a puppy growing, you don’t notice it as much as ev else does if that makes sense, lol.. You’ve got a awesome teacher as well, gives u confidence, but without pushing you to turn u off doing something/sport u really enjoy, just pushes u to help u thru, which is why he says let’s go so u don’t start thinking bout ev neg u feel, he doesn’t leave u enuf time for that to happen.. Seeing this and looking way back, u r like nite n day, the whale tail to me looks alot easier than the gaps you just jumped, however I’m in Aussie so can’t pull my LiDAR Scanner on my iPhone 12 to see distances, would b interesting I think.. Anyways, great job frm u both, awesome progress in ur riding, ev about it tbh, Stay safe have fun!! ✌🏼

April you don't know me but you are my hero! I am about the same level as you and it is very scary sometimes. I think that you are incredibly brave. Your boyfriend is a great teacher and he is so patient . Lucky you! But then again LUCKY HIM!

Getting a tow in is the best way to overcome fear...but I would still have elbow pads and a roost on as those are big jumps for beginners. Good job though...stay safe...from Oz

I stumbled into this channel after just recently restarting my own MTB journey after many years away. I'm in my late 40s now and getting back on a mountain bike again has been humbling but also very fun! I have found some great tips and inspiration from the two of you! Great, great, great! Thank you!

You two are the best, Kyle has so much patience and April is tough and listens carefully to improve so much, also thanks for sharing the sessioning and all the incomplete attempts, sometimes we think a feature should be done first time and seeing you progress by working on it helps and inspires a lot.

That would be crazy! She is such a hard worker and goal setter. It's been really awesome to watch and if anything I am always trying to slow her down and wait until her skills develop before we attempt certain things haha. Thanks for the nice comment! It will be fun to see where she goes :)

Love the new bike April. This is a brilliant video - this is me ... bottling it and that is safe because you gotta really feel it. I get so angry with myself especially as my 12 year old can hit everything without fear !! Keep going - you're so lucky to have Kyle as your teacher!

Wear a mouthpiece when riding sketchy areas or all the time. Even if it's a thin MP. Be better so you don't have bad injuries. Plus it'll help you concentrate better.
