You're right that a lot of AG's lyrics are about the pressures of being a young person and their mantra is: "Kosei ya Jiyuu de Hamidashiteiku" "With individuality and freedom, I'm gonna stick out" That's ok for a 4 person anti-idol dance/singing group, but maybe it's a bit naive to think that it would be possible for most Japanese teenagers to do that. Anyway I think this performance shows how innovative AG are with their choreography and they are not scared to explore some pretty uncommercial music. The song is about the difficulties of learning 4 character idioms called yojijukugo, an example in English would be a phrase like "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". An example in the song is jakuniku-kyoushoku (弱肉強食) which reads as “weak meat, strong food" and means "the survival of the fittest".

The lyrics for 'Night Before the Exam' are the kinds of expressions you might see on a kanji test. That's why some of them seem kind of old fashioned.
