Cory actually recommends making that short bit of airline tubing inside of the filter to be as short as physically possible. Otherwise, with the curve of a longer piece, the air stone sits off to the side and you lose air out of the side of the sponge and not all the bubbles are going through the lift tube

I did see it as well, if your valve is set to the proper amount you don't get bubbles from the sponge. The lower the stone the more uplift you will get, creating more suction and power from the filter.

If you don’t have an air stone do you need to put a bit of hose in the middle still or just the top connection?
@MichiganTropicals

You can, you don't have too I just add the hose and air stone to add a little more suction. But it don't need it to still function.

@MichiganTropicals

You could take one of the middle risers out and cut the sponge down, or if you want it shorter im sure you could cur a riser down and glue it to the top cap. I know hikari sells a small corner sponge for 5 gallon tanks that may help you as well. Same with aquatop.

There is non that go in it, it itself holds bacteria and collects waiste from the water. No additional media can be added in the filter. You can connect a power head pump to the top if you choose.

Do you keep the little plastic rings in the air stone? There is two of them in between the mesh rings.
@MichiganTropicals
Жыл бұрын
Yes I do
@wheelbite9
Жыл бұрын
I've taken one mesh and one plastic out before and it made the bubbles smaller. Not a big difference between that and just taking it straight out of the package and tightening it down as far as it goes, except I'm guessing it will get gunked up quicker if you use less of the mesh and plastic separators. I always wipe the air stone off with my fingers when cleaning bc I noticed that goo builds up where the bubbles come out after about a month. Ymmv.

This particular filter has a very course sponge so air will escape thrue the sides of the filter and to avoid that you cut a very short tube for the airstone OR you get another spongefilter that doesn´t come with this problem!

The air creates suction through the sponge that draws water un eaten foods and waist into the sponge where bacteria brakes it down making the water clean and keeps the cycle balanced and your water clear.

These sponge filters are powered by air there is no cable or wires the only thing that connects to them is an airline from an air pump and assemble the way the video shows

There's a tube of water in the air bubbles on the bottom flow up through the tube and pushes water out of the way. When you blow in the tube and make the bubbles it will act like a pump
