Objectives: Students will demonstrate an understanding of melodic direction (high and low - ascending and descending) and musical form (contrasting themes) through creative movement and shadow play. They will use their bodies and objects to create shadows that move in response to changes in melody and form in music.
A Section: Move the shadow up and down accordingly with the melodic contour. Say: Your fish is dancing up and down in the aquarium. This is a great moment to talk about the differences between the fishes that live in an aquarium and the ones that live in the open ocean.
B Section: Move the shadow from high to low. Say: Your fishy friend is hungry and now he is finding some food in the bottom of his aquarium. Great moment to introduce the word “glissando”
C Section: The fish is getting bigger and smaller, make a fun fish move at the end of each close up. Say: Your fish just saw you and is saying hello.
CODA: Swim in circles from the bottom of the aquarium. End with a big close.
