@@etienne8110 As someone who's been building my own PCs for 20 years, no. The opposite is true. I have no idea why you'd think that. Most games bottleneck on the CPU, not the graphics card. Most gfx cards are insanely more powerful than their console equivalents. Modern CPUs tend to go for more cores and threads, which is why games that aren't optimized for that still run well on older CPUs that have enough GHz. Games that max out a modern gfx card are pretty rare.

yeah - the gaels (irish) and the brythonic celts (britons before the anglo-saxons and romans) are two very distinct groups. they got lumped together by the anglo-saxons, who just called them all 'welsh' (literally 'foreign'). the line got further blurred because wales had significant migrations and language influences from the irish gaels *after* the anglo-saxon invasions - so there are some similarities between modern welsh and modern irish, but due to interaction rather than shared origins. it looks like ara has made the same mistake though - they're using irish names for regions and cities within boudicca's celts. and it looks like potato somewhat acknowledges it's a mistake - he mentions being a bit dissatisfied with 'celts' and boudicca being used for ireland. hopefully some games start handling this properly. it's not even a minor mistake, like they're just different types of celts or something, because the irish aren't really 'celts' (gaels are distinct from celts). lumping brythonic celts together with the gauls of modern france and even the belgae would be fine, given they genuinely had a lot of contact and shared origins. irish gaels are very much their own separate culture, though.

Newgrange is a Passage Tomb Burial Monument, which are closely related to Long Barrows, and served the same purpose. They were used as mass grave sites for communities to bury their dead in. Bodies would be excarnated, the bones organised by type, and all of said types would be buried together The reason this was done, is because the people of that time believe in an ancestor god. A belief that when you die all become one with the ancestor god, and the ancestor god is the collection of all dead from your people (whether that be your family, your tribe etc.). Who would look over and guide the community. There are thousands of Passage Tombs scattered all over the isles, but New Grange is the most clear example found anywhere, and is just as important to Ireland, as Stonehenge is to England. You are right that it had something to do with the Solstices, but it wasn't for measuring them A vast majority of Passage Tombs, for reasons we don't know, have an internal structure that very closely resembles the reproductive organ of cis women, again we dont know if this was intentional on the part of people of that time, as we don't know how they would have collected such knowledge. But the fact that most Long Barrow sites show this pattern, leads to the belief that it was intentional. This is also backed up by the fact that belief in fertility rite, fertility rituals, and the keeping of fertility idols, was very common during this developmental period (the reason I don't give exact dates, is because areas of the world developed at various times, as knowledge of civilisation spread out from cradles of civilisation like Mesopotamia) The reason this part of fertility is important, is because it lines up with the reasoning behind the link between Long Barrows and the solstices On the Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, the dawn of said day would line up with the entrances of almost all Passage Tombs. And as the sun rose, the light would shine down the main passage hallway of said Passage Tomb, and illuminate the tomb areas within. Because, both Solstices were seen as barriers of liminality with a different plane of existence, when the barrier between our world, and some other one was at its thinnest (but more so the Winter Solstice when it came to rituals toward the dead). Water was an even more clear barrier, but so were the Solstices, which is why Passage Tombs are built the way that they are This is an incredibly brief explanation, that doesn't go anywhere near the depth that it should, it is also maybe 7 years out of date, as I haven't done any work in the field in that period of time (Ex-archaeologist who specialised in this period of social developmental history on the Isles)

Not Irish, Brythonic During that period of time, Brythonic was a culture (and language) found on a large chunk of the isles which is now modern day England. But over time, with various invasions, the Brythonic culture retreated further and further to the southwest of England (not the people though, an easy mistake many make, the people weren't really removed, but their cultural identity and language was). The modern culture and language most similar, still on the isles (as Breton is arguably closer but is in Brittany) is Cornish, but the whole of the west country (Cornwall all the way up to Gloucestershire, and ?Wiltshire?) still has echoed influence from the Brythonic people (the cheese roll that went viral online a while back, is in Gloucestershire, and has origins in Celtic harvest festival rituals) However, even then, all the different celtic cultures on the isles, both in the past and in present, were very closely linked. So Potato saying that they're Irish isn't that incorrect tbh

I don't think it's weird to find it strange Ireland is represented by the "celts", because the "celts" weren't a civilisation. It was a culture group, like "germanic" or "mesopotamian". Celts spoke a bunch of different languages, had different traditions, dozens of different nations etc some of which were very different to one another. Even if you just look at the modern day "celtic fringe", the welsh, scots, irish, cornish and bretons are all very different cultures. It's also like - the modern irish identity developed in the last few hundred years. Of course it has some influence from the dark age irish who were mostly celts, but since then there were viking invasions, norman invasions, english invasions and loads of cultural mixture and events that defined modern irish society. It's like having an "English" society rooted in germanic saxon roots in continental europe, or even like Mercia/Wessex rather than (as is usually the case) the Tudor or Victorian eras.

While Civ is determined to undermine its own identity and becone not a Civilization game, the clones are really starting to look waaaaay more appealing than Civ 7 😂

people that say "you can't compare" are not very smart. You can compare anything! that's the exact reason why we learn this skill in primary school. "apples and oranges" is a phrase too many people don't understand...

Played it on gamepass: - Gameplay loop reminded me actually more of ANNO than Civ/Humankind/other 4x - There's a LOT of micromanagment - Optimization sucks - Game is cool but I would highly suggest waiting at least 2/3 months to see if they gonna be patching things out

Ok Irene at least was an empress for a while, though there are many better choices available like Justinian or Alexios Komnenos, or Konstantinos Palaiologos. But why Sapfo? She was a poet, not a leader. If they wanted a cultural leader, Pericles is right there.

Celts are like ancient ancestors of our peoples. I respect them but they do feel a bit different from the Scottish when playing games. It is nice we share that point of connection as sibling cultures, but its worth valuing what makes us separate as well as what makes us the same. Maybe you could evolve into Scotland or Ireland in Civ 7 for example. That could feel nice. I'd like future age cultures too tho. Like maybe future Scotland turns into a Celto Norse culture. Could be cool.

This looks cool, but also seems like it would get very tedious late game. It's a fine line between more minutia and more fun, and some of the systems in the game come off as complexity for complexities sake and ends up being busy work rather than gameplay depth.

Boudica was not Irish, she was indeed celtic, but she was not irish. She was from the Iccinie people that inhabited southern England. She got spanked by a smaller more well trained army of romans almost 10 to 1. She is a paragon of rebellion against forign powers, but she wasn't as effective as people make her out to be.
