(12 Feb 2014) WINNER OF 'ARAB IDOL' VISITS OLD CLASSROOM IN GAZA STRIP
The winner of 'Arab Idol' 2013, Muhammad Assaf, was greeted by cheering children Wednesday (12 Feb. 2014), as the star visited his old classroom at the U.N. school in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip.
Assaf was born in the impoverished Khan Younis refugee camp.
Excited school children handed Assaf flowers, posed for pictures with the star and sang songs with him.
Assaf is the UNRWA's first ever "Regional Youth Ambassador for Palestine Refugees."
His mother's family hails from the village of Beit Daras and his father's family is originally from Beersheba - both localities in present-day Israel.
Muhammad Assaf reached stardom in the Arab world and beyond during the 'Arab Idol' competition in Beirut.
