[About this song]
This work was released in October 1938 and the lyrics are about the Air Services fighting in the Second Sino-Japanese War. The version in this video is sung with the part of the original lyrics, "南京ぐらいは," changed to "ニューヨーク ロンドン," and is believed to have been released after the outbreak of the Pacific War. It became so popular that it was sung until the end of the War, and various versions were produced after the War.
[About translation]
*Red dragonflies
The term "red dragonflies" refers to trainer planes of the Imperial Japanese Forces, as they were painted orange, but here it is used as a derisive reference to enemy planes.
