As a fun fact, most of the home ports of this game are based on a earlier build of the game used in location testing. This version was known as "LED Storm: Rally 2011", and it ultimately got canned in favor of this iteration for not getting favorable feedback. Later runs of the arcade version were retitled "Mad Gear" in all regions, which is where the gang from Final Fight got their name from.

A.k.a. the game that had Tim Follin music in the computer ports. That's pretty much the only thing people remember about it.

I remember playing this in the arcade. It was a standing cabinet with a gas peddle and break, with a wheel and i think a jump button. It was fun as hell on stages with short jumps, you really felt the pressure. Favorite stage music has to be the cave stage. Good memories.

A lot of the music in this game reminds me of the music in Mega Man 2, and not just because both games are by Capcom. The fact that the music in both games was by Takeshi Tateshi (Ogeretsu Kun) has something to do with it. It's like his work on MM2 was loosely adapted from his work on this.

The second level defiantly sounds like Dr Wilys stage from MM2.

@@kabutops87 Yeah, and there's also music in other stages that bare resemblances to Metal Man's, Crash Man's and Heat Man's themes. And the music in the intro and on the last stage is reminiscent of the MM2 title screen theme.

Wait, so LED Storm was a port of an arcade game?😮😱 Cool!😄🤩 And the music and sound effects sound better than the Tim Follin computer versions most people are familiar with. Now I wanna see some covers of the tracks from the Tim Follin computer ports in style of the arcade soundtrack!

Tim Follin music on the c64 version is much more pleasant. In this case the arcade music is too harsh sounding, and as much as I like the sound of early Yamaha fm chips found in the arcade machines I just can't stand it this time.

@@steadfastcollapseThe arcade music was composed by the same person who did the music for Mega Man. It’s a specific sound but you can’t say it isn’t at least a bit catchy.

The version they put on Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium that was recently released is an entirely different version. Only one vehicle you can play as, which transforms between a car and a motorcycle, and more voice clips and cut scenes.

I play Trackmania with courses that would kill a real life driver all the time. So why is it so anxiety-inducing for me to watch all of these narrow courses where a fictional video game driver is likely to jump his car to plunge thousands of feet to a horrible death?

I actually own the ZX Spectrum version now. Despite the lack of in-game music, the game looks and plays great. Crash gave it 93% in 1989, I would give it 100% myself. UPDATE I got this on the ”Winners!” compilation for my +3. I got it on emulation too.
