"Don't cry. You're... perfect." Four words to a girl who, her entire life, felt nothing but wrong for simply being. A curse, a jinx, a pain, a liability. The remarkable writing of this show is that every character, even the ones whose decisions become monstrous and so horrible, make sense. Nobody is bad simply to facilitate the protagonist's journey to good. They're bad because they've reason to be. They make choices that seem so reasonable from their position. They have deep, lingering hurts that you can feel empathy with. This show made many people cry. This show was perfect.

Who is the protagonist? If you're talking about Vi, she was literally in episode 8 talking about Piltover starting a war with Silco which is a betrayal of everything she stood for. Just Vi running around with an enforcer is a betrayal, but her betrayal of Zaun very strong in that council chamber. Way too many people don't understand that that is Vi's role. She isn't the protagonist. Jinx is very perceptive. She has been that way since she was young. I don't even think that Vi realizes that she has already chosen the side of Piltover in the war to come, but Jinx realizes it. Could you even imagine a Vi from the first 3 episodes that made it to the heart of Piltover's power structure and didn't try to take out everyone there? The episode ends with her teaming up with the leader of the council and a bunch of enforcers to go terrify kids in Zaun. A lot of people thinks Jinx is the only one who completes her character arc in the show, but Vi did also. She already is the person in game that everyone from Zaun calls a traitor. This is the way she has changed that the very perceptive Jinx can see.

I'm not sure if this is obvious or not, but Vi was unwittingly causing Jinx to have a serious psychotic episode. The things she was saying to try to snap her out of her Jinx persona weren't helping, they were hurting her and making everything worse. Vi wouldn't know that, because she really doesn't know her sister anymore...but she thinks she does, which is an awfully dangerous place to be. Silco, on the other hand, does know Jinx, and he knew what Vi was doing to her. The reason he freaked out and, struggled free and got the gun, was because he saw this fucking stranger who had been trying to steal his daughter now abusing her mentally, and he was desperate to stop it. Silco really did love Jinx without any strings attached, and a lot of the bad intentions people seem to think he has toward Jinx are not that at all. He really didn't know Vi was in prison, and he never lied to Jinx about it. The moment they both found out and she called him on it, he immediately told the complete truth without bullshitting. He had an ashtray and coffee cup on his desk that she made for him, and when she was injured he lost his shit. He even carried her to the doctor himself, despite being accompanied by two giant bodyguards who could have done that far more easily. He almost murdered the doctor when he thought he had let Jinx die. When Savika told him that Jinx was a problem and, "We all know it," Silco stopped what he was doing, looked at her and said, "Who's we?" When he said, "Is anything so undoing as a daughter?" its clear that he meant his love for her was going to make him abandon the dream of the Nation of Zaun. Silco may have been the bad guy, but he was a great father. He also had mad drip.

He taught her the only way he knew even though for Jinx a Vander figure and a psychiatrist would have been much better for her than Silco he did love her like a daughter. Vi also is limited in her ways. She prefers agression/action over defense and she solves problems by physical means rather than with diplomacy. She didn't want to hit Powder in the 3rd episode, got afraid of herself and ran away but for Powder that looked entirely different. It's so sad and yet it makes this show so great. And if she's going to be a jinx, she's going to be the worst bad luck Piltover has ever experienced. No truce. No negotiations. No peace. Jinx will show them all. Silco is right about Vi : Vi didn't came back for her but for the girl she used to be. Vi would never accept and love Jinx like she did Powder.
@Hohum37
Жыл бұрын
That's guesswork, and shows very little respect for Vi's moral character or dedication to her sister. In the end scene, the people making this show did something that they didn't do at any other time. Black screen. No music. Just two voices. "Are we still sisters?" "Nothing is ever going to change that." Later.. Jinx's final words to Vi "Here's to the new us." It's not said with hate, but with sorrow.. and it's also not a final rejection, it's somewhat ambivalent. Storytellingwise, there has to be some hope left for our hearts to be torn out in season two.

@@Hohum37 Jinx is a totally different person than Powder was. Vi went back for Powder, not Jinx. You can see in Vi face that she’s not viewing Jinx the same way anymore. When she sees Jinx going psychotic on the Firelights in episode 6, VI’s face tells us that she’s in shock about exactly who Jinx is now. We also see it when Vi and Cait are addressing the counsel. It’s not Cait who gives up Jinx as the person who has the Gemstone, it’s Vi who gives her up. And we see it again when Jinx shoots at Vi and Cait on the bridge during ep7. She looks at her with complete diss appointment and leaves without her. She wouldn’t do/display those things for the girl Powder used to be. So, it’s not guesswork…it’s accurate

@@jayfrancelf Vi came back for her sister, she's still her sister. She's spent years in prison wanting to be reunited. (Jinx has spent years wanting to be reunited too, she kept eh bunny, the flare, and arguably her blue smoke tattos represent the flare too - constantly calling out for Vi.). After only a few minutes of interaction, it;s utterly unreasonable for Vi to comprehend what Jinx is like now, and it's also completely unreasonable for Jinx to both insist that Vi loves her like she used to be, but also insist that she's totally different. Vi still loves her, and she'd need some time to figure out how to practice that in reality - she'd probably prefer Jinx to be a bit less murdery and mentally ill - what loving sister wouldn't? Vi mentions Jinx in an attempt to get help doing what she promised Silco - destroy everything he has, and get Jinx back. Vi leaves Jinx on the bridge because Jinx had just fired a minigun at her for no reason she can possibly comprehend. She can't talk to bullets, and she has an injured friend to help temporarily. Jinx blows herself up before she can get back literally moments later. The gap between the end and start of the relevant episodes is moments. Analysis of Arcane is beyond the surface level.

@@Hohum37 That's just it though, Jinx is *not* Vi's sister--or what she remembers of her--Powder is. That's precisely what Jayfrancelf is saying. You're proving their point. It's the same reason that after everything they've gone through, Vi uses her positive memories of the people in their lives to try to draw out "Powder", when in reality, for Jinx, those memories are nightmares. Vi isn't maliciously trying to hurt Jinx, but she's trying to make her, as she says, "snap out of it". "I know you remember" is a call for Powder, not Jinx. Vi only sees Powder and can't accept her as Jinx, which is where Silco excelled. That's the entire realization that Jinx comes to at the end of Episode 9 and why Jinx stays Jinx. We see it echo'd multiple times throughout Vi's rhetoric: in the meeting with Jinx in Episode 6 ("Are you real" scene) when she doesn't understand why Jinx would ask that question. When Vi is talking to Silco and says, "I'm gonna find her and erase whatever fucked up delusions you put in her head", when Vi argues with Caitlyn and Ekko that she can "reach" Powder. That's the division between them. Vi loves Powder and Powder is gone. She won't accept that Jinx is Jinx until the very end and Silco accepted her for who she became.
@jayfrancelf

@@Hohum37 I think you're misunderstanding our points. We're not saying Vi doesnt love her sister anymore or she hates her. We're saying that when Vi sat in that cell for all those years, she was envisioning a reunion with POWDER. She's determined to get back to POWDER. Unfortunately, Powder doesnt exist anymore. The girl that Vi is picturing as the image of her sister is gone. It seems like you think we're disparaging Vi but we're not. We're simply saying that Vi had no way of knowing what Powder had become, so its impossible for her to have been going back for anything other than POWDER. Your analysis is all spot on. We're not interpreting any of the aforementioned scenes differently. The original comment says Vi would never love JInx like he did Powder - and that's true. Would Vi have EVER given POWDER'S name to the Counsel under ANY circumstances? Nope. But she does give up JInx's name because she understands that its not her PowPow.

This show somehow managed to turn a Harley-Quinn-knockoff-with-a-machine-gun character, Jinx, using a special move called the "Super Mega Death Rocket!" into an emotionally devastating sequence. That's... a hell of an accomplishment. I love how Vi thinks she's reaching out to Power by asking her to remember Mylo, Claggor, Vander, and their parents, but what she accomplished was 'imagining scarier and scarier monsters' like the game they played as children. Only this time, instead of Vi 'scaring her own monsters away', she appeared to Jinx as the biggest monster of all. Silco is an amazing villain! The character arc he goes through, and how it parallels Vader -- coming to chose family over the cause / dream of The Nation of Zaun -- was really well-executed.

Silco: Were you tempted? Sevika: Not for a worm like him. But he won't be the last. Sevika is saying her loyalty is pretty much at it's limits. She said yes, she was tempted, but theres no better option than Silco... yet. Sevika's all about the cause, not about people. Silco used to be, but he's getting distracted, and Sevika doesn't like that. I don't think Mel's mum can offer the support of Noxus - I think she's fleeing from Noxus, probably from Swain or someone like that. "The man who killed your brother doesn't feel the score is settled, and his resources exceed ours." I think Mel's mum is going to draw down Noxus against Piltover. Remember what Silco and Jayce were talking about? "I was remembering what brought us together in the first place. The threats beyond our walls." I think we might see a Piltover/Noxus war. Hey Kat, watch the fight of Vander vs Deckard and listen to the noises Vander makes. To be fair, a lot of English words are adopted from Danish, or a least Old Norse!

One big cliffhanger hook and multiple smaller resolutions+setups seems like a great balance to me! Even if there was never a season two we would be able to imagine for ourselves what happens next, and we get this perfect painful final shot accompanied by those lyrics.... Arcane good!

It took them 6 years to make this and ten times the budget they originally pitched. As this is an origin story for League of Legends, which has around 250 legends to choose from. Jace, Victor, Heimerdinger, Vi, Jynx, Echo & Scorch are in the game. The press release says 4th quarter 2023 so most likely between Thanksgiving and Christmas of this year. Only 3 years this time, but they were already working on seasson 2 & 3 before season 1 even released. I thought the writers were doing work on some other legends for season 2, Like the fishfolk, demons, astral beings and the actual mages of which there are tons in the game to choose. This season was the creation of Zon, who, along with Piltover are 2 of dozen nations in LoL.

When we saw young mel, the symbol was that of the locket solari (a shield item in game) In those final moments, when they are voting for peace, we look over mels shoulder and mel looks at jayce. Then on the screen you see a blue dot move across the screen. You see mel see it and is shocked. Then next time we are at mels back. It starts glowing yellow. Great reaction to the end of the first season. Just black. This ending reminded me of Star Trek the Next Generations Season 3 finale. Kinda like The Expanse with it as well. But this sets up season 2 so well. Silco was actually trying to save Jinx by ending Vi to finally put that past to rest. So my predictions for Season 2. The coucil is destroyed save Mel, Jayce, and Viktor due to some Hexcore shenanigans, but they are out of commission and the leadership is gone. The undercity rises up and Piltover go to war. Chaos. Mel's mom takes this opportunity to invade Piltover to seize the Hextech and Mel knows how ruthless her mom is and takes Jayce and escapes to the undercity Viktor is captured, Vi and Caitlyn also escape to the undercity and an alliance is formed with Sevika and Silco's crew alonth with the Firelights, Ecko and Heimerdinger. Jinx is fighting back in her own way, sometimes getting in the way of the resistance. While the Undercity is gaining ground and has Noxus backing up, the man who took out Mel's brother shows up at then Noxus, Plitover, and the new nation of Zaun ally to fight them. For me, Jinx has extablshed herself as a Champion and can die with a selfless act of saving Caitlyn. It just feels like a natural arc for her character. Kat is right with WW I believe. What a great series! Just saw Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse and it's great hearing Hailie's voice again as Gwen but I hear Vi as well.

I think they ended the episodes and the series abruptly because any other option would have ruined it. Episode 2 : if they showed Vander came first, it would have ruined the roller-coaster of emotions that happens at the beginning of episode 3. Episode 4 : the re introduction of Vi in the story works perfectly in episode 5 but would have ruined the end of this episode. Episode 6 : Ekko deserved his own episode, not a simple reveal at the end. Episode 7 : Jinx trying to kill herself loses all its impact if you know she survived. Episode 8 : can't show more of Cait or Jayce's reaction to the kids death without spoiling episode 9. The ending : they ended season with a clear cut, showing anything more would have compromised season 2.

I think Vi's mistake is trying to bring Powder back. Instead of accepting her as Jynx. Vi doesn't realize she is constantly triggering her sister. She doesn't understand by her telling her to remember how things used to be with Milo, Vander and Claggor she is hurting her. Those are good memories for Vi but for Jynx is just reminding her that she killed them. I think Harbinger is going to realize that he has been part of the problem and thats what his going to learn from Ekko. Really hoping next season is a bigger focus on Ekko. I think Jynx has become who she is in the games. Vi is still in her journey who she becomes in the game. I think thats probably going to become a huge focus next season. There are two major theories people talk about. Whether Mel survived and Vander is alive theory, Mel's theory is about her gold harness that she has on is maybe magical in some way thats how Jayce, Mel, Victor and some counsel members will survive. Also want to point out that people say the glow is from the missel BUT people miss that part of it is under the dress and when they show it glow they even show the parts that are covered by the dress. The next theory is spoilers for sonny since he doesnt play LOL so [spoilers] The theory about Vander being alive is cause is believed that Vander is Warwick. In the game lore we know that the one thing he remembers about his past is the name "Violet" aka Vi.

People need to learn how weapons work. If Vi and Jayce had fought, and Jayce had actually gone all-out, Vi would've been entirely wrecked, zero chance she could win. It's becauce Jayce has a "gun" and all she has are fucking boxing gloves. More importantly, he's got not so much a gun, as a goddamned magic energy bazooka. She had no chance against that. That's just how life is. You have the gun, you win. I don't care if you're fuckin Bruce Lee. Guns win, the end. Whoever has better guns, more guns, or can use them a little more effectively, also wins. Simplicity of use...guns are simpler to use than almost any other weapon. Point, squeeze...target dead. That's that. Guns are generally faster to use than almost any other weapon in most cases (especially today). Reloading used to take a long time, but the actual speed of the weapon outmatched any other. A bullet is faster than everything alive. Most combat is all about being about to out-reach your opponent. Bows could match guns at one time (were even better for range), but bows require extensive experience to be effective. A gun is almost idiot-proof. And aside from that, even a shotgun vastly out-ranges any melee weapon of any kind. Nothing is as great a force-multiplier than a gun. And that will remain true especially when guns perhaps eventually stop using bullets and start blasting directed energy. Finally, guns have only one purpose...murder. Vi's gloves could ostensibly be used nonlethally. In fact, she has to go out of her way to kill with them (less out of her way than actual boxing gloves, but they still weren't built to kill). Her gloves aren't weapons, they're only tools. Any tool can be used as a weapon though. But Jayce's hammer/bazooka is ONLY a weapon. It was built for the sole purpose of destruction and death. It's not a tool being used as a weapon. And all guns are that way. They aren't screwdrivers, they're killing machines. It's the ONLY use they have, to end lives. I don't personally care for guns. They're loud, they're not necessary in daily life, too many people are obsessed with them, and I really have no interest in murdering people. But I understand them. Vi got lucky. If Jayce were a less moral person, and chose to go full-tilt against her in a fight, she'd be absolutely wasted. Her only advantage is if she can get close before he can fire, and she can't. Nobody ever can against a gun. And in the rare instances they do, it's a combination of dumb luck and a level of incompetence from the gun-user that its a wonder they didn't shoot themselves. Guns of any type are simply superior weapons, without exception, really. I get it. Everyone likes Vi because of supposed representation, and because she's a badass. Aside from the fact that she caused really almost all of the trouble with Powder/Jynx in the first place, and was really kind of full of herself, I like Vi well enough too. In a fist-fight, Jayce would ultimately wind up a bruised lump on the floor. But the fight they almost had was no fuckin fist-fight. She'd have attacked, he'd have blasted her, she'd have died. That's that.

I think the season does have a real closure, which is the completion of Jinx's transformation arc. The attack on the Council is just the hook for next season. And yes, I think Mel's gone (SOB) and that will bring Noxus in the war game. But who can say? Maybe next season, whenever it is, will take us in a completely different setting to know what happens on the other side of the world (the most "magical" one perhaps). Anyway, after they showed what they can do, I'm in for whatever they choose.

I think Mel has some kind of power that can sense danger because she turns around after her backside glows. I predict in season 2 that alot of the council will die but that Jayce and Victor will live. In the destructive aftermath, Mel is nowhere to be found and presumed disintegrated by the blast but I think her power will save her. Of course since she is presumed dead, Jayce, most likely persuaded by Mel's mom will see this as an act of war from the underside and have no choice but to respond. Obviously Caitlyn will hate Jinx for killing her mom and most of the council. Vi will see this act from Jinx as unforgivable but still cares for her as her sister. But I predict in season 2 , after talks from Caitlyn and others, she will slowly but surely realize that jinx can't be saved and in fact they both will most likely fight eachother to some kind of ultimatum or death. I think Jinx is too far gone but she may have some redeeming act at the end of season 2 like self sacrificing for the better of everyone. I may be very wrong about all these but only time will tell. Cannot wait for season 2!

Vi wanted her sister, Powder back, evne tho the mention of their Dead friends names was actually Mentaly torturing Her. Jinx wanted for her sister to accept her how she became, wich she couldn't, but Silco did, even tho in the end she killed Silco to save her sister, she did indeed kill the only person in the whole city who lved her how she was. Silco was a twisted, but genuine father figure for her, he saw a lot of himself in her and din't sugar coat things.
