The more I watch the scene with Viktor and the grenade, the more certain I get that he wasn't hesitating because he was unsure about the wire. He knew *exactly* which wire to cut, but was wondering if it would be best to let it blow - take out himself, Jayce and their lab before Hextech could be weaponized. "There is always a choice."

One of the many tragic aspects of Powder/Jinx is that at times, she's aware of how mentally broken she is. And she tries to fight against it, but all too often, it's too strong, and she slips back into her trauma and psychoses.
@LadyDoomsinger
2 жыл бұрын
Most people with mental illness are at least to some degree aware, that they don't quite think the same as other people, or that their senses/mind cannot entirely be trusted to be reliable (I'm saying this as a person with mental illness myself). And most of us will try to fit in, try our hardest to be "better", but never quite succeed, which hurts as much if not more than the illness itself. Those who are completely immersed and lost in a world of their own making are very rare - I'm not even sure such people exist, unless you count people with catatonia (comatose), and it's hard to say exactly what they are thinking. Perhaps that is what makes Jinx feel so "real" to watch.
@NightmareOO9

I think one thing a lot of people forget in shows is that the characters don't know what the viewer knows. When Silco tells Jinx that Vi is there for the hextec gem, it would make sense that is what he thinks. He is such a jaded person about everyone, "everyone else betrays us" that is how he sees the world. It would make sense that with that view, it seems really convenient that as soon as Jinx has something of value and power, her sister now of all times comes back and is looking for Jinx along side an Enforcer.
@LadyDoomsinger
2 жыл бұрын
On the other hand Vi did say rather vehemently, only a short while earlier: "I'm gonna find her, and erase whatever fucked-up delusions you put in her head..." he also knew at this point, that Marcus had kept Vi locked away all these years in Stilwater, and that it was only because of Caitlyn that she was released. - Though that doesn't mean that you aren't right, that he might have dismissed what she said as a lie; or even Vi lying to herself, or that he might genuinely think she and Caitlyn had ulterior motives. But he's not ignorant of Vi's objective. Of course, as shown later on the Bridge - He was right. Vi did prioritize Caitlyn and the Gemstone over trying to reconnect with Jinx. Granted Jinx did shoot at her with a minigun, but she still made her choice (especially considering that in episode 6, Vi outright says: "You can shoot that thing [gun] if you want, but I'm not leaving. I'm not gonna abandon you again," then episode 7, Jinx shoots 'that thing' and Vi abandons her again.)
@4twenny

if you saw in the childhood fight, jinx shot 4 times, hitting ekko the last time. but this time, jinx shot only 3 times, since she didnt wanted to kill her childhood friends. when ekko hesitated to punch jinx, she felt happy that he sees the powder that is still inside her, and she wanted to end it while shes still "normal", that bomb wasnt for ekko, it was for her. her smile when looking at ekko shows that shes actually moved by him not taking the final blow. BUT ekko saw that bomb and kicked it away, in the last scene before the bomb explode you can see the bomb "powder" moved with purple dust behind and exploding somewhere away. thats why shes still in one piece even after the explosion.

ehhh it could be that or ekko was faster this time around. Hes wearing a bulletproof vest after all and jinx knows that, she could easily just shoot another part of the vest and stop ekko that way without killing him since it would still knock him back, much more convenient than intentionally taking a mace to the face and several punches as well. Not to mention that as soon as he hit her she immedietely tried to aim the gun again. Ofc she still has memories and likely a deep soft spot for ekko, but unlike vi shes been fighting him for years(while knowing his identity probably). I highly doubt she hesitated like ekko did considering we weren't shown that, just a slowmo to show how fast ekko was moving.

I feel like it's also noteworthy to mention that Brain chemistry and neurology is a big contributer to Jinx's mental state. If you look back at the first scene of episode one, we can see those white scribbles appear as well. We can also see in episode 3 that manic episodes weren't uncommon even back then. So Jinx already had to deal with mental illnesses from a very young age. Her trauma just made it worse.

About the Ekko vs. Jinx fight. The mechanic of Ekko character in the game is that he can come back a little in time. You can fight anda then use his power to rewind time for you and then fight again. Since timetravel wasan't created in Arcane (at least yet) they did this amazing job of portraiting his power as going back on time in his memories, in the time when he and Jinx played as kinds and then predicting Jinx moves he wons the fight. It was such a good adaptation and also the song and visuals. Flawless.

It to me looks like jinx holds the last shot as she's aimed at him but doesn't fire on purpose like she did when she won as a kid. She may be unstable but she has no direct desire to hurt those she cares about. Ekko obviously has feelings for her both now and as kids and the second he realised what he was doing and that powder was still in there he couldn't bring himself to hurt her anymore. They both pull there punches by the end so to speak. The last look was from powder remembering that she still cares for him and appreciates that he stopped because he felt the same. The grenade was enough of a delay for someone like him to get away but she was happy to end her own life there if carrying on meant hurting the people she still cares for. Even when she shoots at Vi and Cait it is a clear warning for them to separate not because she wants to hit them.

Ekko and Jinx scene on the bridge was well thought. Ekko and Jinx spent an important period of their childhood together hating enforcers and playing together. When Ekko brings his clock out swinging, the way Jinx looks. Apparently, its a game they played together. They are all grown up and playing the game for the last time, because the loser probably ends up dying this time. At the same time, scene refers to the abilities of the Ekko in the game with the backflow of time from the Ekko losing when they are children to the current time where game did not start yet. By thinking about the shots of Jinx when they were child, Ekko guesses her shots and dodges them. I think this was one of the coolest scenes in the show.

The Ekko vs Jinx fight is filmmaking magic. They flashback to them playing as children, both to explain how close they were when they were younger, and to explain how Ekko used his intellect to anticipate her moves. Then it rewinds and Ekko ends it in seconds. So amazing. The Ekko/Vi hug nearly made me cry. Because of those "Bill Seinkeiwicz" scribbles on the screen, I see Jinx as having a little Elektra in the mix. That's more from the artists than the voice actress. Mel comes from a family of monsters. I think she is genuinely trying to be better than her family, but wasn't entirely successful. She constantly manipulates people, and everything is a power game with her. Ekko and Jinx both have plot armor because they are playable champions. Ekko and his Firelights are the only ones with sensible political views in this whole crazy show. That makes me worry that a lot of them aren't going to make it. Like Warcraft, this world has deep lore, and all of it exists to generate conflict for the games, so sensible organizations generally don't last long.

That mural on the wall of the Firelights base is really sad to me. We can pretty much assume that Vander, Clagger, Mylo, Benzo, Violet, and Powder were the first faces painted. Now at this time, we see the Pink haired girl that Jinx killed on the blimp being added to and painted on the wall. The last of the casualties. It is shown that she is still being painted or touched upon. The story I get from this.. Is that this is a girl living with the Firelights. Listening to Ekko's stories about how awesome Vi is. Seeing Vi's face up on that mural every day. Becomes infatuated with Vi. And so to emulate her hero. This girl cuts her hair short and dyes it pink. Only for that to freak Jinx out later and Jinx to kill her for it. So it's little wonder why Ekko is so dead set that Powder is totally a lost cause.

Definitely watch the "Enemy" film clip (Imagine Dragons ft. JID) which has some great background building footage for Ekko and Powder as kids. Part of me thinks that scene where she pulls the pin on the grenade was her wanting to die in a way. Her world has just collapsed, she barely trusts Silco anymore and she thinks Vi is abandoning her again. I think Ekko stops punching when he briefly sees Powder in her eyes and in that moment, it's Powder who wants to die (or is metaphorically dead already). I'm starting to think Jinx's hatred of Caitlin is a mix of the fact she's an enforcer (that killed her parents), topsider Piltovian and is receiving attention from Vi whom she feels abandoned and betrayed by again. Maybe she wonders if she's even been in Stillwater prison this whole time or been with Caitlin. Pretty sure we saw the firelight drones in "Happy Progress Day" (ep.04) at the fair in Piltover but I was super confused by that scene too - were they with Ekko or Jinx. Pretty sure it was Jinx, but it leaves me with the question of why did she send them in while Vi was there (and Ekko too I guess) when they seemed to kill pretty indiscriminately. We're building to a pretty intense climax here. Looking forward to breaking these ideas down more with you. Love hearing people's perceptions of the relationship dynamics so please respectfully add your two cents :)

You guys are fun. Jinx is a villain to society. But she's a tragic villain, but I'm not sure she can come back, because of the acts she's committed. Can't wait for the last episode and if you want another show to watch and react to I suggest The Expanse. It has the same strength of worldbuilding and characters as this show. I watched your other Arcane reactions and if you didn't recognize Grayson's voice, then I'm assuing you didn't watch The Expanse.

Sorry, but Jinx is a villain character. The fact that you can understand her tragedy and root for her salvation is what makes her a good villain.

There is so much more going on between episodes 6 and 7. When Jinx lights the flare in episode 6. We see her delusion of Mylo looking like he's crying behind her back as the camera rotates. Mylo was the one who constantly ragged on Powder as a kid. In Jinx's mind, Mylo represents her feelings of self doubt and unworthiness. In this moment of lighting the flare. This is a pivotal moment for Jinx. A chance for redemption. She is letting go of her doubts (the portion of her mind that Mylo represents) and ready to accept Vi back into her life. So we see her Mylo aspect crying as though in agony. Then later during the scene between Vi and Caitlyn on the bridge. The Mylo aspect is not only back but larger and seems more demonic, signifying that Jinx's doubts and fears are almost completely taking her over. Also, the last words Vi ever said to Powder were "Mylo was right. You are a jinx"

There is no main character. This is about all the legends. Even villains can be legends.

That last interaction is more sad because in game ekko has voice lines for jinx. Saying he had a crush until she started talking to her gun. So little man had a crush on powder. Until she became jinx.

Ekko vs Jinx fight.....in the childhood visions of them playing, Jinx shoots Ekko 4 times and the 4th shot was the one that hits him. But in the real fight, both Jinx and Ekko hesitated to go through with their final shots. Jinx shot only 3 shots the exact same way she did in her childhood, but she didn't shoot the final shot and Ekko also didn't go through with the final punch. Jinx was smiling in the end knowing that both of them didn't go through with their final shots remembering their relationship in the childhood, before she blew up the bomb.

I was thinking more of a Maul when it comes to Silco. With a touch of Saw Gerrera. But definitely see the resemblance to Thrawn as well, now that you mention it. Does definitely look a bit like Crosshair though.

There is a theory that Jinx didn't set of the nade. It was Powder, that set it off. Maybe Powder realized what she has become, and know that the only way to stop Jinx is to kill both.

When Powder and Ekko used to play fight she always fired 4 times. But Powder managed to keep Jinx from firing the 4th, which would've killed Ekko. When Ekko started beating her, he stopped because he realized she wasn't Jinx, she was Powder. It was Powder that dropped the grenade, so she could die with someone that cared for her. She wasn't just trying to kill Ekko, she was trying to kill herself, so she could die sane. But Ekko kicked the grenade away, saving her life and ensuring Powder became Jinx permanently. Ekko is low-key a villain here, because TWICE he has a chance to save powder, or let her have peace, and TWICE he F's it all up. The other time being the previous episode, where Vi managed to get Powder back... until Ekko attacked and kidnapped the one person who could get through to her, and did everything he could to poison Vi against Powder/Jinx.

I think the reason why alot of people root for Jinx is because we saw her childhood and we understand that she is just a victim
