This is something many shows fail at doing. The villain is completely calm, or smiles, satisfied. They come off as all-knowing, like they predicted everything that was gonna happen which can be... What a great villain. Silco Was very consistent with his belief in the importance in loyalty, when it was jynx on the line, he did not act hypocritical and was willing to sacrifice his goals for her. There was also a second after his 2nd in charge swung her sword where he couldn't tell if she had hit him or the guy across the table, and he showed legitimate fear. In a show so rich in amazing scenes, there are still some like this that just leave you on the edge of your seat. It's also telling that this scene made me realize how much I enjoyed Silco as an antagonist. Dude's not just a moustache-twirling baddie, he's an interesting character, suave, measured and keeps his composure even when faced with the very real chance of being killed. Masterful scene, that makes you bite your nails. Jinx' "I made her a snack"-scene is also a great example of such a scene. I think there's an important reason this scene comes right before Jayce's ultimatum. It highlights just how tenuous Silco's grasp on power really is, and in doing so, it puts his decision not to turn in Jinx into vital context. Silco is holding on to power by the skin of his teeth, Sevica, his own right hand, basically admits that her loyalty is not unconditional, and that if someone better for Zaun shows up she will drop him like a bad habit. Once word gets out that he turned down both peace and Zaun independence just to protect an unstable teenage girl who consistently does more harm then good, he is *done* for. No one but Jinx would ever follow him after that. But that makes his undying devotion and loyalty to Jinx even more tragic. Turning in Jinx would have easily been the best choice for Zaun, both for its people and independence. But Silco has found someone he cares for even more than Zaun itself.

Silco’s speech tells so much. Vander and he were the ones that built the foundation of what the Lanes were today. The Undercity was a dead toxic slum before the two of them did something to change it. Silco hired on chembarons like Finn not out of want but grudging necessity. Silco is very much about loyalty, but he also has a hatred of what he perceives to be ‘parasitism’. Pay respect to your elders for the sacrifices they made to make your lives better and recognize that this whooole chembaron project was not meant to get a few upstarts rich. Silco wanted all of the Undercity to enjoy a level of prosperity not yet accessible to them. Silco hates that he needs the chembarons because they get a taste of money and power and suddenly they’re acting like Piltover council, especially Finn.

Unlike the chem barons silco never cared about profit. He cared about the interests of his people. Which is something I respect him even as a villain

The chembaron's businesses are the only thing that kept/keep Zaun afloat. Without them the people would have simply starved or been conquered. If anything, the chembarons are the true heroes but arcane opted to show them as obstacles for Silco to push aside. I like Silco but if he tried that on Renata Glasc he'd be fkkd even with Sevika by his side. QED.

The writing is so layered here: "Were you tempted?" "Not for a worm like him. But he won't be the last." She's saying both "more people are going to come for your throne," AND "I still might be tempted by someone else if you lose your step." God, it's so good.

@matthewmuir8884

@@Arzoden Sevika doesn't have a moral complex about loyalty. Sevika's goal, as far back as episode 2, has always been to support whoever she feels is the best leader for Zaun. When she grew disappointed with Vander's unwillingness to fight Piltover, she joined Silco. She remained loyal to Silco here because, as disappointed in Silco as she'd become, Silco cares about Zaun, while Finn only cares about his own profits.

Okay I never noticed how insane they animated this. At 2:05 Few times, people can pull off the subtle tells, but this one is pretty dang good. When he’s staring at him, Silco truly felt fear. His eye is a bit wide, his eyes being slightly bit apart from his eyebrow. Those are the signs that he truly was fear and he thought at that moment, he was going to fall. But then just about a few milliseconds later as he was staring up, his confidence bounced back up. The hand he played on that gamble now was in his favor and he took the control back. The more I look at scenes like this, the more I’ve realized what a great villain Silco is. He’s not the most powerful, but he’s someone was willing to do anything to achieve something while also treating those around him that met with the same goal and standards with respect. He knows he isn’t powerful and needs those loyal to him to assist and truly respects them

I love how much they put in his expression between the cut and him addressing the baroness. That look of comprehension that he had escaped the knifes edge just this once, it probably being the closest he’s come to the end since that night in the river. Then he glances at Sveika, understanding it was her choice that she didn’t make lightly. And finally, putting back on the cool tone and disdainful look to tell the baroness off. I do like, however, how in delivering the line casting the baroness off he rubs his hand across his head and hair. It’s almost like on some unconcious level he wanted to check if it was still even there.
