You nailed it on the cons. I think it’s inevitable that shots will occasionally be missed so I’m fine editing on the phone. It’s a bit hard when you have to add a shot close to another shot (didn’t get out of the bunker or a chip rolls back off the green). Hazard distances and green maps will take the rangefinder to the next level.

Great review! I canceled my Arccos, Apple Watch missed way too many shots, too distracting. My series 7 Apple Watch battery was dead too fast. My scores have dropped since I stopped using the technology. I’m sticking with my rangefinder and playing the course… not my iPhone and Apple Watch. If I find a refurb Apple Watch Ultra, and I can justify the additional wireless data costs, I will give Arccos. Probably not going to happen.

My Apple Watch Series 7 died on hole 11 (teed off at 3pm). Just not enough battery life for what Arccos needed it. Might last 18 holes if I charge my watch to 100% before I tee off. I also have the watch configured to have the crown pointing in not out. Really helps eliminate inadvertent crown touches.

I'd love to play a round with him to see how he uses Arccos, because while my experience has been generally good and I enjoy Arccos, it is FAR from seamless. I've had multiple occasions where hole maps do not include proper tee or green locations. In one instance, a green location had been change 6+ years ago , and Arccos still had the wrong location. I also almost never get the option to set the pin location on my Apple Watch. This doesn't bother me that much, as a I have already created a putting routine around setting the location manually on my phone. These problems are not pervasive enough to push me to cancel my subscription, but I don't think Arccos works nearly as smoothly as it seems to for him.

I used Arccos and Apple Watch (series 4) for about a year, and gave up in disgust. The crown would constantly rub against my glove and switch holes, my link device would crap out, the watch would lose connectivity, watch battery would die before round was completed, and the entire mess of using the iPhone to start the round would slow things down and take focus away from the game. I had already been leaning towards upgrading to the Apple Watch Ultra for the increased battery life and other improvements. However, watching your video above helped me decide to pull the trigger and upgrade. So I got my new Apple Watch Ultra & put the Arccos sensors back on my clubs and went out to give it a spin. Holy cow! I am now a complete re-convert. It was the solution I've been waiting for - ability to just play golf and not have to screw around with complicated setups and being tethered to an iPhone. No shots missed, tagging pin location was a breeze, recessed crown is not impacted by golf glove, no battery issues at all. What a game changer (pun intended)

How does it know the difference between a practice wing and a actual swing?
@breakingeighty
4 ай бұрын
A variety of factors including the microphone, the sensors, and proximity. It will auto-mulligan if you hit a shot from the exact same spot. So if you take 5 practice swings and then one real shot, even if it thought one of the practice swings was a real shot, it will only register one shot from that location. This works great. The only time it can be an issue is if you flub a chip or leave a ball in a bunker. In this case you occasionally might need to manually add the second shot.

Practical question on the ‘set pin location’ feature. What good is setting the pin location if you’re already on the green? To be valuable, wouldn’t you need to then go back to your ball to hit your approach shot. IRL, I don’t see someone driving/walking all the way up to the green, hit a button then come all the way back 100+ yards to hit the approach. Unless I’m missing something.
@breakingeighty
2 ай бұрын
The whole purpose of setting the pin is to give you more accurate statistics. Specifically for approach shots, chips, and putting. If any of these know where the pin is, and where your first putt is, then it knows exactly how good your approach was, how good your chips are, and how good your putting is. It gives much more accurate data for those metrics when the pin is set.

Isn't an issue! It basically has auto mulligans, so it will only register one shot from a specific location. This works great, and the only time it might become an issue is if you totally chunk a shot, or if you leave a shot in a bunker. So if you're hitting again from nearly the same location, you might need to re-add the shot. But for practice swings, you shouldn't have any issues.

Garmin watch doesn't require the sensors. The watch detects swings and marks distance using watch impact sensors and gps automatically after you hit a ball. HI! Good video, I'm giving Arccos a try. Picking up an Apple Watch today, and I'm getting a "free" set ($9.99 shipping, plus of course a $150/yr sub after the 45 day trial) of sensors from the TaylorMade partnership. I'm a new player who only started playing in August 2022. My index is 25, and dropping. From the start, I bought the Shot Scope V3 and loved it, but after only 7 months the battery life on the V3 was already dead at the end of a 4-hour round. Then, I got the notice about the new V5, so I impulsively bought one. WOW what a huge disappointment. The V5 sucks so bad, if you don't agree with me, just wait and use yours a little more, then you'll agree. The V5 reboots in the middle of rounds for no reason, it also glitches out and stops reading the sensors in the middle of rounds, the touch screen, which Shot Scope originally criticized touch screens in the V3 marketing, as being cumbersome while golfing, is exactly that cumbersome and fidgety and overall just lousy. So, I'm excited to try the most premium of all the options, Accos and an Apple Watch. I do hope Accos makes more improvements soon, as not having distances to hazards on the watch just might be a deal breaker on me signing up for the annual sub.

Great insight much appreciated. Question does it know when you take a practice swing versus your actual shot?
@PersadPower10

Arccos is programmed so that any number of swings taken within a 5 yard radius it just counts as one shot. So if you take 4 practice swings, and then walk up to your ball which is only a couple feet away and take your real swing, arccos would count all of that as only 1 shot. Two caveats to this: 1) make sure you are taking practice swings within 5 yards of your ball. Don't take practice swings on the other side of the course while waiting for a partner to hit or something like that. 2) if you hit a shot and the ball does not travel 5 yards (like trying and failing to get out of a bunker, or topping a wedge), you'll have to hit a second shot and the sensors might not pick those up as two different shots. You will have to edit that after the round. (Or perhaps during the round if you so desire).

@@landontucker1142 thanks! Got my sensors out for the first round. Running iOS and watchOS betas and they didn’t register an activity. Assuming they will update it later.

Mid-handicapper here, bought this - sensors, link, app - sending it back. No terrain data, ie it recommends clubs based on distance alone regardless of the fact that it might be 100ft up or down to the pin. BIG ONE - no green terrain data. It reads every green as flat. A lot of the data is therefore flawed. Like many golfers, I use my 7 iron for chipping around greens and the approaches. Again, the 7 iron data will be flawed because you can’t tell the app that it was a 7 iron chip, so it assumes you duffed a 7 iron from 50 yards. Another issue is you are responsible for the data gathering but you have to pay £129/$150 sub EACH YEAR. That is just ridiculous and why I will be returning. It is just not worth that amount of money when free apps give you distance and course overview already. PLUS lastly, if you play with friends, there is no scorecard function within the app to keep everyone’s score. You have to use another app for that or a scorecard. You will also spend A LOT of time buried in your apple watch/phone rather than enjoying the scenery and golf with your mates!

I think you might be using it wrong. My app adjusts for slope and maybe have to spend a total of 5 minutes on my phone over 18 holes

There’s no green terrain info, right? Therefore what is the point in spending £150+ per year on the app when free ones will give you almost as much on-course data? I don’t need an app to tell me where my game needs improving 😂 My point about using a 7 iron, say, for a bump and run still stands too. App will factor into my 7 irons stats that I duffed one 50 yards rather than record it as a bump and run. Thereby skewing the 7 iron data. I will wait for an app that focusses solely on 150-0 yards because thats where the real game is. This app and many others severely lack in this regard. App is only good for remembering your drives, which to me isn’t worth £150 per year.

You can mark any shot as a chip. This will fix your problem.

@@cbravo212You can only mark putts as putts or chips. There are also numerous other issues. Not least, the amount of time you spend checking if its picked up your shot and the lack of terrain data or green data. The greens just appear as miscellaneous green blobs on the app.

I just bought and use the sensors today. Played 36 holes, it missed many putts and chips around the green , also registered 3w without me using it. Not sure how you described it so flawless.

Thats wierd cause when i use it i dont have any problems at all. The only problem is when you chunk it and need to hit it from the same place. At that moment you need to edit it. But i have been using it for the past minth and its flawless.

Arccos marketing video. My S62 combined withe the Garmin App in the background, does this for years now. No Apple watch no arccos hardware. Very accurate and much less of a hassle.

The S62 is a fantastic watch. But without the CT10 sensors the tracking isn't as accurate. But everyone has different preferences for sure. For just a straight GPS Golf Watch, I'm not sure the S62 can be beat. But for most accurate stat tracking (especially for apple watch users) Arccos is fantastic.

I have moved on to Shot Scope, but I'm glad Arccos has improved the AW integration. Unfortunately, the cost to buy an AW, plus new sensors (for my new clubs) and the subscription, was too much for me-great review, at any rate.

Great review. And I agree I’m that passionate about Areos as well! Btw I’m at Bandon dunes this week and used your video to get ready. Can’t wait for this week to use my arccos at Bandon!
