You can get finer controls for the mist pass by plugging in the mist to a ramp node and then into the factor of mix node.

coming from maya/3ds max, i used to hate blender... now because of channels like this, i love blender. took me 2 years to get the hang of it.. 10 mins to get the hang of 3dsmax.. this channel is dope!!

👍Crisp, to the point and informative. Just to add, to control the intensity (and color) of the fog, between the Mist output of Render Layers and Factor input of Mix node, I used a Color Ramp node. (ya, someone has already said it below in the comments). While playing with the Crop node, discovered that by changing Left, Right, Up Down values, you can select different areas of the sky background to be displayed. The difference between (Left-Right) and (Up-Down) should be your render Resolution (X and Y respectively). I used Scale node instead for my render, set to Render Size.

Great stuff. I suggest using K-cycles as it does all of this in the Render panel to the side without having to mess with composite nodes
