Thanks for uploading this, just re-reading the book again and I wanted to watch the show once more. I don't think I'll ever forget the Goon/Erskine, so perfect for the role.
Also Erskine has a really odd sense of humour e.g. "Stick around and face the music" when Torquill is sending the music bands daily // "Stay locked up until someone comes clean" at the sewage farm.

Brilliant thanks. I watched this when I was 10, I never saw the last episode. They didn't have repeats back then. Dillion's house disappearing was the thing I remember the most

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! I only ever saw Episode 5 of this as a child (not knowing what it was called) and that, "Hathaway, fetch me a bus!" moment stuck in my head from that time onwards. I recently picked up Archer's Goon, the book and when I read that Hathaway was in charge of transport, it reminded me of that one moment and I wondered if it could possibly be the same thing! And it was!! I really enjoyed seeing the whole series!

Seriously, when I was younger, there are three things that remind me of Archer's Goon: Torquil's entrance, the Goon giving the thumbs up when burying the radio and Howard's utter panic of "Hathaway, fetch me a bus! // Archer, money! Quick! // etc)

It was back when children's TV was about making the most with a limited budget and more about the imagination. The good old days :D

See, the Venturus twist is perfect. It was shocking when you find out, but when you look back, it makes perfect sense. I remember gasping and and squealing when Erskine said it. Still love this series, and I'm so glad to get to see it again. Thanks for uploading it.

When you watch it again, what the Goon does and says make a lot more sense. His shock that Howard is afraid of him, for example.

@@garygreenbaum7573 At first, he thought Venturus was pretending - that's why he cut the V in the cup to let "Howard" knew what's up but he was genuinely shocked that his little brother - the one he had been looking after - didn't have a clue who he was, scared of what he looked like and, on top, a little upset because he finally worked that not only Venturus made him stay in the same spot for 13 years because he was wrapped up in his own life but, because of the promise that all the children made to their parents, they had swore to look after the 7th until he was able to look after himself but, for Erskine, it was due to actual care for Venturus so, looking back, you can see why he sticks around Howard for the duration of the story.

@@rubix4195 There is a bit of a plot hole when suddenly everyone seems to know that it's Venturus keeping them all in the town, and that they can leave when he gets his powers. I don't recall how it's sorted out in the book. Dillian's not at all surprised to see adult Venturus on the screen, which is odd as presumably the last time she saw him was twenty-six years ago (well, thirteen from her perspective).

Thought about this at work last night. Googled Archers Goon and sat and watched the whole lot, I don't remember the last episode. It's interesting to see things as an adult that I remember from childhood. Top stuff, glad you uploaded it.

Brilliant thanks for uploading. I misremembered the Erskine twist and for some reason was convinced the goon was Venturis.

Great episode! I love how Quentin was having so much fun typing and seeing his words come true. 🤣 Erskine was adorable when he said he’d like to travel and write a book about traveling. He’s so lovely when he said he might ask Quentin for advice on writing a book. 😊

Amazingly I found the original notes I made on this series back in 1992 in a small notebook. By episode 3 I had worked out that Howard wasn't quite what he appeared. I had made a note of all the names and what they did. It was great to see this series again even if their weedy voices began to grate on ones nerves-she wasn't called Awful for nothing:D Thanks for uploading.

Thank you very much. I read the book long years ago; the cover blurb mentioned that it had been adapted for television (the blurb said Dawn French played Shine), but at the time I couldn't find any sign of it. I only found out this year that it's now on youtube and (expensively) on DVD. It was wonderful to watch and, as near as I can remember, an excellent adaptation.

Annette Badlands is a virtual lookalike of Dawn French in this, you can see why they made that mistake.

I remember seeing this as a kid and remember the music really creeping me out. Goon I found scary and strange and can remember clear as day at the end of ep5 not being able to sleep as I imagined Goon peering round my bedroom door 😂 Took a while but having rediscovered it, the music gave me chills again 😂

Nah, it ends when the book ends but the expectation is Erskine goes on a world tour and, potentially, write a book; Hathaway and Torquill make amends and both of them go an adventure in the past (sadly, Torquill cannot return back due to staying in the past too long) and Venturus is pondering if Erskine will come back and decide he *actually* wants to farm the world and offer Awful a part of the world potentially becoming a new version of Shine which he really doesn't want to happen so, in an odd way, Venturus takes over Erskine's position in over seeing a problem child (Awful). Quentin probably writes a book and Catriona probably invests in a sound proof room for the future. XD
