Any chance we consumers of archery equipment could convince Merlin to send NuSensei a Wave XR? I just bought one, but a review probably would have convinced me to buy one sooner. There just isn't much information available on it.

Currently Merlin have the Rio at £129, the Wave at £225 and the Elite at £360. That puts the Wave as a competitor to something like the WNS Forged Elite. The Rio is cast, and also made of magnesium alloy. So light in weight, good for those who don't want or can't use a heavier bow. I'm not sure if they specify a max draw weight on it (some cast risers have recommendations not to use higher draw weights).

NUSensei - Question about metal bows vs CF risers. Have you noticed that metal bows tend to have a metal ring to it. I don't think it's hand shock as much as just the metal that seems to have a "tone" that is different from wood or CF. I noticed in the different metal risers that I've shot that however tend to be cheaper risers, that they all have a "ring" to it when shot. It's not there for my Fibrebow nor any wood risers I've ever shot.

Really looks a nice piece of kit. The details like the striping at the end definitely add to it. How would you compare it with something like the W&W AXT (which is what I have currently)? Looks kind of similar in some ways (i.e. both quite heavily built but strong and well balanced risers). Here in the UK at least, it's quite a lot cheaper than the AXT, a relative bargain perhaps?

Hello. Thank for you for your review and comments on this riser.. I was thinking about using this riser to build a barebow traditional class bow. NFAA traditional class for barebow states that...." no lamination, marks or blemishes on the face of the bow or in the sight window.." Do you know if the clicker guides disqualify this riser? I plan to call NFAA but thought you may know off hand. Kindest regards. Joseph.

Nu, what are your thoughts on using an arm guard vs not using one? You generally have one on, but I noticed you didn't here. Are they necessary? I know they're just for protection, but do you feel you would be just as comfortable doing a normal practice session without one?
@NUSensei
6 жыл бұрын
Basically, if you have correct form, you won't hit your arm, so an arm guard isn't needed. However, if you are not perfect in your alignment or your release, you can hit yourself, especially as modern target form tends to bring the string very close to the arm/chest. I tend to tap my forearm more with my own Olympic recurve than barebow because I expand more through the shot, so I wouldn't feel comfortable without one, but would be OK with most of my trad bows.

If you're interested in the wave, it's very well made too. Basically same process, same materials, I've seen a lot of feedback from users of it that absolutely love how it shoots. I'd assume it's very similar to the Elite, just slightly different weight, look, and limb pocket design. It's made from a solid billet of aluminium (not cast/forged), anodised finish, all the good stuff about the elite. You don't really get those features on any riser in that price category from what I can see. PS. Obligatory "not a shill for Merlin" disclaimer. I just did a lot of research into these when I was choosing mine, and it seems like they aren't too well known so happy to share what I know about them.

NUSensei, I do have a question: made in England, the bushings are in milimeters, isn´t it? (not USA standards). If that is the case, stabilizers, plungers, clickers, etc., from other brand, let´s say "SE Archery" won´t work? please, let us know... Thank you so much!!
@NUSensei

Most of the bushings are standard, though some bushings (such as for clickers and plungers) may differ based on brand/model.
@Bobblybook
5 жыл бұрын
FYI, it has standard stabiliser bushings, plunger is standard (5/16' thread). The only metric threads on the riser are some allen key sizes, and the clicker is an M4 thread, not an imperial. Most good clickers will come in both options, but this is the only thing you really need to get right.

How would the Mybo Elite riser compare to the Kaya K3 that you reviewed earlier? Since they are pretty close in price range
@Bobblybook
5 жыл бұрын
A few things to be aware of for this, other than the points NuSensei mentioned in both videos: 1. Aesthetics! They look quite different, and it's important that you really like your own bow. If you have a preference for the looks of one over the other, go with your heart :) Also colour selections etc. 2. Carbon (K3) vs Alu (Mybo). Different feel, different feedback.. some people are firmly in the alu camp, some are firmly in the carbon camp. Just personal preference, but possibly a big deciding factor for this comparison. Also note that the Mybo Elite is anodised, the Kaya K3 is painted. Anodising is typically a better and more expensive finish, but you cannot anodise carbon so all carbon risers will be painted. 3. I can't really comment on balance between the two as I haven't compared them side by side, but from what I remember they are both fairly excellent in that regard. Imo both pass the "excellent quality, great value" test, so it really comes down to what you prefer. Hope this helps you a bit!

Good review as always! Thanks for your content. However for future reviews wouldn't it be more interesting to remove as many variables from the equation as possible? For example if you review risers, always use the same limbs and arrows at least, string whenever possible.
@NUSensei
6 жыл бұрын
This isn't possible, as the bows I end up borrowing and reviewing are rather random and eclectic. I don't mess around with the way people set up their bows, and while I sometimes put my own equipment on, my own equipment doesn't get messed around a lot either. In the end, I'm not assessing the performance of the bow, just the way it feels and handles, so it isn't as important to use a test set-up.

What is the arrow spine of Easton jazz you use for this review? i have mine 1916 on an 24lbs which is way too stiff (ridiculously) but it launches to the right, instead to left, is it a form issue or an center shot? do i have to change the arrow?
@McJaews
6 жыл бұрын
Of course you want to match your spine to your poundage, but if money's tight and you're not planning on getting better fitting arrows, then you can look at tuning the bow a bit as a bandaid. If you have a Formula or ILF riser with side adjustment in the limb pockets, then correcting the string center alignment can help the arrow fly more straight. You can also use a plunger button to force the arrow to go further left (assuming you're a right handed shooter). Honestly though, for best results, you want arrows that fit. Experiment at close range. Good luck.

How long are the arrows? Do you have a long draw? Is 24 lbs the marked weight on the limbs, or what you actually have on the fingers at your draw length? For something like a 30" draw with 24 lb marked limbs, those arrows may not be THAT far out. They'd be way stiff at shorter draw lengths though.
@mitskoala0380
6 жыл бұрын
The arrow is a whopping 31" Easton Jazz arrow, 24 lbs is the marked weight on the limbs, i have a 27" draw,
@jonedwards7019
6 жыл бұрын
Marked draw weights are measured at 28" so you are probably pulling a bit less than 24 lbs, 22-ish maybe. Will vary depending on limb bolt position, bow design etc. so it is best to weigh it if possible. They are going to be stiff, but safe. The spine charts (see the Easton PDF catalog) point to a T1 or possibly T2 group arrow, which would be a 1616 or 1716 respectively. "Correct" arrow length in Easton's terminology is usually a bit longer than your draw length - it's measured 1" in front of the arrow rest at full draw. If you're shooting at a club, it would be best to speak to your coach before buying new arrows. Having them a bit too long is no bad thing as your draw length can change as your technique develops, although 31" is a bit excessive :) If they are going right, you have sight adjustments, and yes you can tweak the centre shot if you have a pressure button.
