The narrator takes you on a tour of the Ola Babcock Miller Building, formerly the Iowa State Historical Memorial and Art Building. Near the Iowa State Capitol, it was designed by Des Moines architect Oliver Smith in 1898. The story reflects the way museums have changed over the century, with historical photos that document the artifact cases, panoramas and galleries of the past. Enjoy the glorious views up into the stained glass and clouds ornamenting the dome, or looking down from the balustrades, as you see colorful mosaic tiles, reminiscent of ancient Rome. We are reminded that though the building is no longer a museum, the restored building is the State Library, and is still open for your visit.
