The Xalpa Aqueduct, also known as Arcos del Sitio, is located 29 km northwest of downtown Tepotzotlán along state highway number five, Tepotzotlán-Villa Del Carbón.
It is an architectural work built by the Jesuit friars at the beginning of the 18th century to bring water from the Río del Oro, which rises in the Pinal mountain, to the Xalpa estate, using it to irrigate the land and other farm tasks. The work was essentially directed by Father Santiago Castaño, although it remained unfinished for some time due to the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767, it was finally finished in 1854 by orders of Don Manuel Romero de Terreros, third count of rule and who inherited the hacienda. .
The aqueduct has no ornaments of any kind, but its monumentality and its unique beauty can be found in its arches, with a total of 43 arches spread over four levels, reaching a height of 61 meters, and a length of approximately 438 meters, thus considering as the tallest in Latin America and an important hydraulic architectural work of the 18th and 19th centuries.
