Great videos! My Bearcat is doing the same thing. Had a guy redo the carb, and its still doing the same thing. Looks like you resolved the issue with a spark plug. Will be giving that a shot. Thanks for the videos!

try draining the bottom of the carb there is a little screw down there and yes the prime works well and get a hotter burning plug. if mine sits too long i have to drain the carb a coupple of ounces then i start it with the choke on

I have a small black hose coming out of the bottom of the carburetor on my 1997 artic cat 454 . when it is laying down gas flows out of it . Where should it be hooked up to? thx

That sounds like the bowl drain hose. It does not connect to anything and is used to drain the bowl by opening the little screw valve in the base of the bowl. There might also be a bowl vent line. Also connects to nothing. Gas might flow out it if the carb is tilted over on its side. That is normal.

Is it worth buying today Arctic Cat 454, which is 22 years old? What is the access to parts?

Well, out of curiosity I checked for 1996 bearcat parts online. There was still a surprising amount of items still available. Also, some items like seals can often be found generic by size. Anyone selling a 20 plus year old atv cant be asking much for it, so if it was cheap enough, I'd take a chance. Certain items like plastic body parts might be hard find, but if you're ot concerned with looks.....

Where does the vaccume hose on top of the carb hook to?

I don't remember a vacuum line. You sure your no thinking of the carburetor vent line? The vent line hooks to nothing. Just route it up high where it's open to atmosphere and protected from water or dirt.

Once I knew for sure the choke was off, I back off the idle and adjusted the pilot air screw (bottom of the carb). Now it starts easily, and no longer floods. Occasionally when left idling for a few minutes, it will cough, and die. This is likely an issue with the improper vacuum conditions caused by a lack of air box, and filter . I'm going to post more videos about earlier repairs to this quad soon.

@@Thumper833 I'm still waiting for an answer, but if takes longer than 10 years, I'm going to have to update my Windows 3.1 to Windows 11.
