Five arctic foxes with genes from other subpopulations have been released in Hardangervidda. The goal is for the Arctic fox to become healthier and the population more viable.
-The breeding program has succeeded in reintroducing the Arctic fox in several locations, but managing the genetic health in a good manner is equally important as increasing the population in numbers, says senior researcher and leader of the breeding program Craig Jackson at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA).
