Alex Turner was 19 when he wrote that masterpiece that Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. It's unbelievable because it sounds great and is a lyrically brilliant album.

Jordon Brewer Exactly!! This greaser, cool-guy facade they've been giving us the last two albums is pushing me over the brink. I am holding out some hope for the next album, but Alex's side project also mirrored the negative turn the Monkey's took. All I can do is hope for the best in the future :( pray for faster songs and good lyrics haha
@jordonbrewer2010
8 жыл бұрын
+Katie Medlin precisely, I understand smoking has stunned Alex's ability to sing. but he can still write good lyrics, and he doesn't even need to do the rap-speed songs that he used to, all in asking for is higher tempo'd songs and the Shakespearean esque peotry he used to write. and I know that seems like a bit much to ask, but the bands magic came from Turner's story telling. "OH YOUVE SAVED ME, she screams down the line. The ban was fuckin' WANK! And I'm not having a nice time." "anticipation has a habit to set you up, for disappointment in evening entertainment, but..." "and she wont be surprised and she wont be shocked when she's pressed the star after she's pressed on lock and there's verse and chapter sat on her inbox, and all it says, is that you drank allot." And if you look through AM there actually is some clever writing here and there. Turner is still capable of good writing, he just fucking doesn't. and it makes me really fucking ANGRY!

LYRICS Well, oh, they might wear classic Reeboks Or knackered Converse Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks But all of that's what the point is not The point's that there ain't no romance around there And there's the truth that they can't see They'd probably like to throw a punch at me And if you could only see 'em, then you would agree Agree that there ain't no romance around there You know, oh, it's a funny thing you know We'll tell 'em if you like We'll tell 'em all tonight They'll never listen Because their minds are made up And course it's all okay to carry on that way 'Cause over there, there's broken bones There's only music, so that there's new ringtones And it don't take no Sherlock Holmes To see it's a little different around here Don't get me wrong, though, there's boys in bands And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands And just 'cause he's had a couple o' cans He thinks it's all right to act like a dickhead Don't you know, oh' it's a funny thing you know We'll tell 'em if you like We'll tell 'em all tonight They'll never listen Because their minds are made up And course it's all okay to carry on that way But I said no Oh no Well, you won't get me to go Not anywhere, not anywhere No, I won't go Oh no no Well, over there, there's friends of mine What can I say? Even though I am just 19yo , I get a sense of nostalgia listening to this. Such simple and observatory lyrics probably every lad can relate to. Now , the fact that they have matured with time , I would never get the same feel listening to them playing this song compared to 20yo Alex singing. This is their best song ever. I hope they release a 20 year anniversary album of WPSIATIAN with the little tweak in outro guitar solo xD

I read about these guys in a 2005 magazine article and they didn't have an album in America I could buy yet, but there some demos I downloaded. Fake Tales of San Fran and A Certain Romance. I was blown away at the pure energy and creativity. It was like a mix of Punk with Beatle melodies. Maybe it's melancholy, but I still hold this album as their best. I listened to this one over and over and over cause every song was fun and catchy and fun to sing along to
